I got to be honest here. I haven't played any game in over a week and have no desire to.
Interesting. I may have outgrown gaming? That would be so awesome as I would save a ton of money on video cards. :Q

same, bar act of war direct action and its ensuing expansion pack, there isnt actually any game in my library that i actually want to play, id have to be on the brink of death by bordum to even fire up BF2

i havent actually played a game since well over 1month (more interesting things to be doing like thermofluids and heat transfer! lol....oh and sex.....lots of sex)

but i guess its nice to have the power there, if i ever need to call it up.

I am progressing down the graphics card whore path it seems

Integrated graphics (yeah baby for years)
9600 pro (for couple years pretty decent until it decided to die one day)
7800GTX OC watercooled at 521 and 1414 bought in August 2005
2 evga 7900GTX superclocked purchased today from Newegg for SLI for watercooling goodness. (Gulp, but tax returns baby) March 2006

if yes, why didn't you buy it at monarch?!

I got the cards from newegg for 599.99 each (no sales tax for I live in Oregon) and I got six months no payment, LOL. I will quickly pay it off (850 in one week and the rest the next. I got around 800 in taxes back.

Monarch has the cards for 659.00

I'm a cheap b@stard so I don't buy expensive stuff. I've been sorely tempted by the 7800GT and now the 7900GT, but so far the most expensive card I've purchased lately has been $170 - X850XT. I like cheap-yet-good stuff. I'm currently typing this message from a LAN party on my gaming rig using the X850XT... with a Sempron 3300+ overclocked to 2.65GHz. :p Awesome value!

Nope, not really. I'm not a hardcore gamer, but do enjoy playing from time to time, and want the games to run smoothly, and the graphics nice. I want a card that will do that right out of the box, no messing around with clock speeds, changing settings in bios, or other places. Plug and play. I had that with the 6800GT AGP card I had, till my crappy ECS mobo fried the agp slot, and (unknown at the time) fried the 6800GT at the same time. I upgraded the mobo to an ASUS p4p800-e deluxe, so I could continue to use my p4 3.06 processor and 3x512mb ram, and the 6800gt...When I found out the card was bad too, I had already installed the new mobo, so I bought a new agp graphix card. XFX 7800GS extreme. Turned out to be not such a great card for me. Had to severely underclock it to keep it running. To me, that's like buying a car with a v-10 engine, and pulling 2 plugs to keep it running.
I've only owned a few video cards in my years.
ATI 2 mb All-in-blunder in my first "new age" PC
Diamond VoodooII 8 mb. add on card
16 mb STB tnt card
Xtasy 64 mb. Geforce3 Ti200
PNY 6800GT 256 mb

RMA'd the 7800gs
Going to give ATI another chance, with a X850XT PE AGP card.
We'll see about that one.

All I want is a card that will play games at a decent resolution with most of the eye candy, and no lagging, no stuttering, and no crashing. I don't mind updating the drivers as necessary for better performance, but I DON'T want to have to tweak the card's settings, bios or clock/memory speeds to get decent performance. I don't have to have the latest, greatest card on the market, and don't want to dump several hundred $$$ into my card every 6 months to keep up with the latest technology...
