Have you actually _finished_ P90X or know someone who has?

We've all seen the ads, it's just an eclectic but pretty intense program (6 days week of about an hour/day mixed cardio, strength, yoga, etc.) and gives results the same way any diligent exercise program followed for a while would.

However, I think most people don't get good results from this because they fail out of it. Most people who could make such a willing commitment are probably in ok shape to begin with.

That said, have you finished it or know someone who has? How did they do?

I am planning on starting it next week with some friends. We're each putting in some money and those who finish it will divy up the winnings. Diet isn't a part of it; just a commitment to skip no workouts and retroactively make up any missed.

I guess you should be of decent fitness to begin, which is fine for me. I'm just so terribly fed up with the normal weights and cardio routine I've been doing seemingly (and literally) half my life.

The people I know that have done it weren't interested in a 90 day routine.

One just used the workouts in the order he felt like to supplement his cardio routine.

Another followed it for 2 months until his normal martial art club started up again.

I've done a few exercises here and there. They're fun and tough.

Everyone and their brother is on or has done it here from fat bodies to already athletic.

IMHO it's one of the easier to follow and complete. Whatever it takes to get into a program of fitness is ok in my book.

Personally I just hit the gym. 3-4 months I change 100%.

You and your friends are basically just agreeing to committing 6hr/week to working out from the sounds of it(which is still respectable). But you're most likely not going to get the promised results of the P90x workout as it was designed as an extreme workout routine to get you in shape in 90 days by controlling every facet of your workout and diet but if you only do half of it, then you may very well not see the desired results at all in which case you're better off just trying for a different type of programs(and reading the fat loss sticky) that does not have dieting incorporated into it like starting strength/strong lifts, etc.[you'll still need to work on diet outside of those programs to your liking] What are your plans after 90 days?

Recover most of my lost fitness 🙂 I am not in bad shape, just fat. I need to drop serious poundage. I plan on mixing this with a strict diet, too. As recently as the summer I was in great shape but have put on a truly stunning amount of weight in just the past 3-4 months :O

My friend did this 2 years ago (the whole program, including diet). Night and day. I should ask him if he'd mind me putting up before/after pics, he's been the poster boy for it among my friends.

Have any friends seen that, gone "Oh wow!" and done it themselves, or at least tried? Surely some were jealous enough to at least think about it.

I think it'd be fairly easy to keep yourself motivated when you know the # of workouts that you'll be doing. The true test would be what you do when the 90 days is up.

Yeah that is a challenge. A few times in my life I've gotten very lean and once I've reached a lb or bodyfat percent target I've been at a loss as to what to do now, so I've lowered it but then it gets to the point where it's not reasonable to lower it more so I end up stalling out.

yeah, this was used as the impetus for the same group's fitness challenge in 2009 (who can get the most fit in 4 months).. good way to start the new year and keep in touch/talk sht. A number of us used concepts from p90x / some of the workouts as part of our routines. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have on this, it was actually a lot of fun.

While I'm sure the P90X exercises will help you...but it sounds like you really just need to concentrate on managing your diet. How much poundage are we talking 10-15lbs...I'm sure you could drop that with just your regular exercise schedule and a careful diet (cut sugar for the most part).

Talking almost 20 now since July. Not bad since I started at 179. I was very fit back in July cardio-wise. Then I was 182ish as recent as September and weight gain accelerated thereafter. I hit a real sticking point at 187. The damn weight would not go up! But then I kept at it and here we are just shy of 200. I'm just looking for something fresh. I know I can lose it. I'm basically exactly where I was in 2001 when I had a come to Jesus and got down to 180 and not above again until this year. I had blamed the 2001 weight gain on fast food and drinkies more days than not but apparently teetotaling does not make me impermeable to fattening up after all 🙂

if you're the kind that needs structure or challenge to stick with it (I am) start a group challenge, or try the p90x regiment. It definitely helps to have something to stick by, either competition or standardization.

Yeah I do. When I've trained for races before it's been easy to find motivation but injuries continue to scare me away from that as they have plagued me incessantly. I wish I knew somebody who would just say I've turned fat and useless and don't have it in me to get lean again but everyone I know is too polite and Mrsskoorb ain't saying much about it 😉

Dude...you're fat AND useless...

did that help 🙂

I know you don't want to train...but if you have Nike+, I'd happily do a running "challenge" with you over a given period/mileage. Do you have a bike?...it could just be a biking competition over AT.

I cannot consistently run unfortunately. It's like the tide, my knee and feet and all that work when they do and other times I respect their wishes to not run. I sure do have a bike, though. I've watched quite a bit of hulu on the laptop while on my trainer in the basement 😀

It didn't help because you are not angry enough when you say it.

Don't make me come over and bitch slap your fat ass back into shape.

Edit: That reads worse than I intended...but I know you're married so I assume you won't take that as an invitation...

as a fellow Canadian expat:
You're a disappointment to the Great White North. I hereby oblige your formerly-useless fat ass to return to the ice-chiseled-ness from whence you spawned. Don't be a bitch!

also I'd be interested in working in some sort of challenge if you're up for it.

How about this for an insult. You are now officially an American, fatty. Now hit the treadmill. I'm sure MrsSkoorb would be very appreciative. 😛

yeah, being mostly skinny is one of the few things Canadians have over the US. However, no American would be happy with a diet of twigs and berries.

Canadians don't eat twigs and berries. Those are warm weather luxuries. Everyone knows they subsist mainly on a diet of boiled rocks and penguin meat. They hunt the penguins by hurling icles at them from atop their polar bear mounts.

In their dreams perhaps...

LOL

Penguins are in Antarctica, we eat seals. Also poutine.

Actually, these days we only eat what Stephen Harper tells us we can eat. And about once a year we get uppity about it so he takes all the food off the table and cancels meals until we settle down and forget what we were mad about.
