whatever happened to vbr?

why ripping cbr...

I like using WMP11 because it's the easiest way to rip multiple CD's at once, as well as organize them/change tags. If theres a way to do vbr in WMP, then lemme know 🙂.

Whatever happened to those 72x drives?

those things ripped real fast

I wish I had one 🙁. Then again, I almost never rip.

I have one. The problem was a high rate of out of box failures that made them too expensive to mass produce. Mine still works great though 😀

I still have one also, works great and it's dead silent.

How much are you getting paid to rip 300 cd's?

I'd charge my normal $30-35 an hour for stuff like that.

Not enough. It's a family friend so it's $200 outright. I wasn't even gonna asked to be paid though.

Takes me about 20 min to rip a cd, but I use exact audio copy and LAME VBR.

I use that method if the cds are well used. WMP ripping is good enough for cds in good condition.

Best friends of the family. They always help me out, so it doesn't hurt to help them out, too.

Update: Got around 100 done in 4 hours, so things aren't looking too good. Turns out there wasn't 300, more like 250, and I already did about 40 last week. So I've got 110 to go. I've added another computer (only one drive though) to speed things up.

Edit: Setting up yet another computer with two more drives, so thats a total of 6 at once.

doing super-anal eac/flac ripping with a single drive takes me about 20-30 minutes a disc, if there's no scratches. 2000+ discs took me over a year, and I still haven't gotten through all my live stuff yet.

I've spet upwards of 3 days getting clean rips of scratched /worn discs, but I only do that if I can't get it off pedros.

So you're ripping to multiple computers over multiple drives? then what? 😛

A NAS unit is arriving today 🙂. I'll just connect it to the router and throw all the folders on it. I'm ripping with WMP on two computers and iTunes on one. They all use the same folder structure, so it'll be easy.

No they don't.

iTunes groups things by the exact performers... so in rap ablums it will make a new folder for each combo... ie: a folder for Eminem, a folder for Eminem ft. Dr. Dre, and a folder for Eminem feat. d12. WMP just makes a folder for the entire album and puts in the folder for the publishing artist.

Unless they've changed it in the past 6 or 7 months.

Those NAS drives are pretty sweet.

You can speed it up a little if you have a newsgroup account and broadband... I mean, you already have the cds right so it's not really that bad...

The people I'm doing this for don't listen to rap, or any music that is organized like that. I'm doing the transfer to the NAS right now, and everything looks good.

Oh, and I managed to finish ripping at around 7PM 🙂. Took about an hour longer, but I got it done.
