I think current antisemitism sprouts from old Christian opinions of Jews as moneylenders, userers etc.

Nah, antisemitism is just a formal name for discrimination against the faith. There's loads of folks who discriminate against Christianity (Jews included) and other faiths, but I've never heard a formal name for those.

I guess you could say antichristianism or something 😕 If 6 million Christians get slaughtered like the Jews did in WWII, I'm sure some smarty in the world's eye will come up with some formal name for that too.

I was thinking before that. When the Jews were bankers since Christians were not allowed to loan money and charge interest. This made the jews really rich incomparison to the commoners which bred jealousy and bla bla. Some where around the middle ages.

Im gonna take a stab at this, but im a bit shoddy when it comes to european history...

I would say "not openly" because christians always needed jews. For example, during the renissance, when christianity was flourishing, christians weren't allowed to be bankers (or something like that) due to a bible passage where jesus condemns people for defiling(sp?) a temple by opening a marketplace in it. Something about separating the divine from the earthly, "give to ceaser what is his" or something like that... So, christians basically needed jews to handle banking because christians looked up on it as sinful.

I think...

Feel free to rip me apart, I havent taken a history class in forever...

Actually with money lending it had more to do with the Bible saying that you should never owe money to someone, and if you did, to do everything in your power to pay it off ASAP. It also says that if you are the lender then you should not charge interest.

No, Christians and Jews have never been at war directly with each other, and there's a fairly obvious reason for that. The beliefs of Jews and Christians are not really that much different. Jews believe that Christ (Messiah) has not yet returned, and other Christains believe that He has returned, and that the Jews rejected Him and that now we've entered into what's called the 'Church Age' where Gentiles (non-Jews) can be saved too. So you see why the Jews believe that only Jews can be saved - and also why they don't believe the Old Testament. When He comes back to claim the saved people, Jews and everyone else, the Christians will see it as what they've been expecting, while the Jews will see it as the return of the Messiah that actually happened 2000 years ago.

My $.02😀

Nazis were athiests, weren't they?
Hitler extended his rationalizations into religious doctrine, claiming that those who agreed with and taught his "truths," were "true" or "master" religions, because they would "create mastery" by avoiding comforting lies. Those that preach love and tolerance, "in contravention to the facts," were said to be "slave" or "false" religions. The man who recognizes these "truths," Hitler continued, was said to be a "natural leader," and those who deny it were said to be "natural slaves." "Slaves," especially intelligent ones he claimed, were always attempting to hinder masters by promoting false religious and political doctrines.

Many Nazis thus regarded Christianity as a cowardly creed founded deliberately by Jews, and hoped to see it replaced with a reborn Germanic paganism based partly on Norse myth and partly on the principles of National Socialism.

What are you talking about? Jews were the upper crust of society and Christians were the middle or lower class? When was this? 😕

Do I just need more coffee?

Wrong, considering the term was coined in Europe before Nazism.

You insinuated that the term was created after the Holocaust, which was not the case.

Don't they teach history in school anymore? Nazis (NSDAP) where staunchly opposed to religion as it conflicted with their ideology.

HOW ABOUT THE SPANISH INQUISITION??!?

BRING OUT THE FUZZY CHAIR!

EDIT: Yes the christians needed the Jew, 'cause in Medeval times usuary (the process of lending money to make money) was a sin. Hell, medeval europe was a very communistic society. There were price standards, hours where you were allowed to work, etc. All the lords and merchants hated the Jews, because most of them owed them huge sums of money. They used the fact that they killed jesus as a conveient way to murder them, and there fore not owe them any more money.
