Where you place big items on the street in front of your house and the county comes and hauls it away for you. Thinks like desk, sofa, tables, appliances, etc that you don't want anymore. Well the other day after we placed this stuff out, I see people taking of the things we threw away, and digging through it. They are doing this right in front of me. Have they no shame, as to dig through our junk while we are right there.

It's called dumpster diving and one man's trash is another man's treasure. You should see how it is in various college towns during the end of the spring term.

edit: Wow, and I thought I replied quickly.

No, they are free to help them self. I just thought they would be embarrassed to do it in front of the home owner. We even taped the screws for the table to the table, just in case someone wanted it. Just thought they would do it when no one was around looking.

It is better if someone else can use your old stuff and appreciate it, instead of it going to take up space in the dump.

You should have gone out and helped them load it into their car/truck and said "thank you for carrying away my crap, I hope you get good use out of it".

I thought this was a parody thread relating to a forum member 'reclaiming' a used La-z-boy recliner yesterday

That sounds very self-conscious.

Why should they be ashamed? They're no stealing and some people make a nice living doing that.

Now answer my question: WWYBYWB?

we were cleaning out our basement, had an old slightly warped in the middle crappy jitz table, another table, curtains, a matress anda whole bunch of stuff. most of it was gone by the end, actually had a few conversations with people passing by asking if it would be ok if they took some of the stuff. a lil asian kid came and got the jitz table, ran up to our door and rang the bell to ask for it.

Whats wrong with people wanting to use things you no longer even want? only thing i dont like is if they leave a mess, scattering things all over the place, which happens sometimes.
