Have not seen the CPU section in 6 months, so very SCARED to LOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've got enough going on and I want someone to give it to me straight?

Is it safe it to look in the CPU section without totally feeling inadequate, meaning I might just go off myself or something? Or should I peek in after the holidays?

^Yeah, I don't need that right now. I'll just wait until the sigs around here make me go all WTF and I'm forced to.

Man, I have been fighting the urge to go i7...I have a Q6600 @ 3.2GHz Prime/Memtest 48H stable right now and a 4870...

I don't see an i7 being that much better for over 800+ dollars, but I want to do it so baaad. 🙁

As long as you don't mind not having the latest, greatest...

I'm kind of meh as far as i7. For gaming, I'm not sure if it's worth the heat tradeoff.

There are heat problems? Damn, I'd better go take a look at that forum now. 🙁

I haven't really kept up myself (I don't really pay heavy attention to these things unless I'm in the market for upgrading). My overall sense though, is that the heat output is not unreasonable considering they're quads with IMC. But it's simply much higher than someone who uses a dually is used to.

Ok, I just took one for the team and popped in there for a look. I think you're relatively safe -- most of the threads are still about the Core 2s, with a handful of Phenom and i7 threads. Your epeen will probably remain intact...

I've been running the same computer since May 2002, been through about 5 hard drives though.

P4 3.06GHz HT / 1.0GB 1066 RDRAM / Ti 4600
Was expensive when I bought it, haven't felt the need to upgrade yet.

I am just starting to look into upgrading myself, and have no idea what the hell is going on anymore. It's been 3 years since I kept up with parts. To the best of my knowledge, Intel is still using L775 or whatever sockets and the Q6600 is really old... Yep, fear my single core AMD processor, grrr.

You realize you can block categories from showing up in profile-->personal options-->category blocking?

That's what I do with P&N and some other subforums, except I still manage to accidentally end up in there when I'm not logged in 🙁.

I7 moved to a new socket.
