I remember when they first came out, they were just a gimmic. People bought them because they looked cool, but they were expensive and not very well suited for gaming. Have they finnaly become better then CTRs in enough areas that their inherent limitations, such as a fixed resolution, make them worth it? And, for soemoen liek me, who likes to use a 21" screen in 1024 768, do they make any LCD's that run in the resolution at that size?

Yes you can get a monitor that size that will do 1024x768, and the other thing is no a good quality LCD is not as nice as a good quality CRT especially for gaming, but the LCD is getting really close to being almost as nice. Check out the Dell 24" if you want to see a nice monitor.

Whats a CTR?:p

Yes, I think lcds are have caught up with crts, or are at least very close. But still, the price preminum just dosent make sense to me when 19 inch lcds are $300 and 19inch crts are $100

In my opinion, LCD monitors are pretty much there, if not better, than CRTs. CRTs crush them in price, but the digital input, lower profile, higher sharpness at big resolutions, and lower power consumption makes me think that LCDs just may have passed them.

I'm not a huge gamer, so perhaps they lack there. But my 17" Acer LCD plays MVP Baseball '05 and Doom 3 just fine.

Yeah, LCDs are better than CRTs ;)

No LCD will look all that great if it's not running in its native resolution.

They may work, but from my experience with non-native resolutions on every LCD we've sold at my job, it looks like crap.

Overall quality on native rez is better on an LCD than a CRT IMO, but many people will disagree with me, so i am going to exit this thread now ;)
