Have i fried my 8800 GTX??

My system is as follows:

Antec HE550
Intel E6600 2.4 G
Mushkin 2 gigs DII800
Asus P5B Deluxe
BFG 8800 GTX 768MB
120 gig Samsung IDE Hard drive
500 gig Maxtor SATA hard drive
SHS203 DL dvd burner

I was connecting a new 500 gb seagate hd b/c my OS hd failed and i was going to reinstall windows on the new larger drive.

I had to disconnect everything to trade locations of hard drives. I checked all my cables and everything seemed fine.

I powered on and my monitor showed random colors mixed in with the normal boot up screen. I quickly unplugged the computer and checked everything.

When I attempted to reboot, I could smell components getting hot. This same problem occurred with my old system when I tried to install a new hard drive and I had to replace my graphics card.

I am assuming that I have again caused overcurrent in my graphics card and need to send it in (it has a lifetime warranty), but what have I done to cause this if the graphics card is indeed failing?

I would greatly appreciate any help/comments.

did you check to make sure you did not plug in the wrong plug to the video card, or that the card did not become unseated during the swap, and you made sure the 24pin main, 4/8pin 12v, and all necessary power connectors are plugged in properly.

would need exact info about the PSU and motherboard to do more troubleshooting.

What is more exact than

Antec HE550
Asus P5B Deluxe

You looking for serial numbers and manuf date or what

I had to unseat the video card to get the HDDs out, but I did make sure everything was pluggged in correctly before powering on.

Is it possible than an spare 12V connector can short against something (ie the case) b/c I have a few spare connectors hanging here and there.
