Have Geforce 6800, upgrading to 7800GT

Two questions.

Personally I am upgrading my computer to the 7800GT. Out of all the recent nvidia cards out there, is this a good choice? Is it even worth it going to the 7900 models? Are the benefits really that great?

Secondly, I'm wondering if someone can run dual monitors on the 6800 since it has one VGA and one DVI port. Will that cause any problems or look strange on screen?

the 7800gt is a very good buy but if you have the money step up to the 7900gt, at stock it performs better than the 7800gtx and it can overclock all the way up to 7800gtx 512mb speeds. its cooler, quiter, and consumes less power than the 7800gt and has 24 pixel shaders instead of 20, 8 vertex shaders instead of 7. all around better card for about the same retail price.

Can anyone answer the dual monitor question with the 6800 card i have? Is it bad to run dual monitors having one LCD on the DVI and the other LCD on the VGA port?

I have a 6600 with a similar video-out configuration. It works fine - you can't tell the difference very much. However, this may or may not be true depending on the specific video card and LCD configuration involved. Seems like some video cards and/or LCDs have severe degradation from VGA input for some reason, so you'll need to do a little research, if possible.

I just upgraded from a 6800gt to a 7800gtx, doubled my score in 3dmark 05 and run all games maxed at around 60+ fps. ITS WELLL WORTH IT.

It's not bad to run dual monitors on one card, it should work just fine. the VGA monitor's output might not be as clear as the DVI, though.

As other people have said, if you want to stick with NVidia get the 7900GT. Personally I would get the x1800XT but that's my choice.

I'm also waiting to upgrade to the 7900 GT. However, I think it's wise to wait a while before ordering or purchasing a 7900 GT. There have been a lot of problems with the 7900 GT and 7900 GTX, particularly from manufacturer eVGA. That company has admitted their first batches of production had faults, and they are still working with nVidia to figure out the problem. There seem to have been "less" problems with the BFG and XFX makes. NewEgg has withdrawn the 7900 GPU from its sales site.

I'm content to sit this one out until nVidia and its partners can get it straightened out.

I'm running dual screens on my 7800GT, not a problem.

Consider the X1800XT at least, it's a close competitior in price and performance.
