The country is NOT full of idiots. What the country is full of, however, are immoral people who have lost all sense of right and wrong, truth or lies, because they have come to believe that they are immune to their own consequences. Deep down, though, they know this is a delusion, so they are tormented by fear, and hateful of anything that might stir their conscience.
As I have tried to communicate to you before, I regard you as one of the wisest naturals whose posts I have the pleasure to read, someone who has acquired deep understanding of life far beyond what I believe I would have ever been capable of without the good fortune to have chanced upon enlightened teaching, and only, unfortunately, the adumbration of which I am able to project.
I want to tell you then, how your post sounds to me:
People as you describe, those who have lost a sense of morality and are resentfully in denial about it, are indeed not idiots, but, without understanding their motivation, look to more morally conscious people for all the world like they indeed are idiots. It is what they look like on the surface and it is the name they are given reflexively. This autonomic assumption, in my opinion however, misleads people to assume it's their intellect that isn't functioning. The facts are, I believe, that they just use their intellect to rationalize with the result that the smartest among them are the best at fending off their actual condition.
This is why such people are not reachable by reason; they have usurped reason and use it to rationalize in their own defense.
Only the kind of insight you have can see deeper, to grasp the fact it's a moral issue, that what they are actually doing is defending against the realization of their own 'sinfulness'.
The wisdom I was exposed to told me this about that:
We were all exposed as children to worse than a concentration camp, via the process of verbal put-downs made to feel evil, a feeling the conscious mind can't endure as a child and survive so those feelings get suppressed or repressed in order to survive. That is the awareness we defend against, the feelings we must never tough again, that which is deeply hidden from consciousness behind bunker hardened doors. That is what we fear truth will reveal and the denial of which causes us to project our own sense of our worthlessness, our evil, on others.
The only cure or hope that we have that I can see is first to see the logical validity of this point of view, first, and then to root out those feelings by remembering and reliving them in a therapeutic setting. I was exposed to someone who claimed to be 99.999% sure he had rooted out the unconscious assumption we was the worst person in the world via that method and he was what, real?.
Anyway, wanted to share.
And to tell you we can't abandon those sinners because they are us, and the sins they feel guilty of and are in denial about were nothing but lies they were forced to buy into to survive.
God is as real as we who were created in His image reflect it. I know you see that in your children.
