Have Cigarette Companies ever give samples in the mail?

I was wondering if they have, because if this is true wouldn't this be the ultimate way to get people hooked on cigarettes?

nutrasweet did back in the day..they mailed gumballs to everyone in america in the 60's

Years ago they would sometimes hand out little mini-packs (4 or 5 cigs, I think) on downtown corners when a new brand was being introduced.

Quite a few years ago I got samples of smokeless tobacco in the mail (chew), but no smokes.

Parents back when they were alive and didnt die from cancer from smoking I remember several times them getting coupons for free packs of smokes, granted this was pre 1990 and before smoking had become the "bad" thing for you to do. But yes they used to and I kinda want to say you would send in a card and they would send back a pack for you to try of an off brand.

Sure. Well, sort of - Natural American Sprit gives out free cartons - supposedly they have the highest nicotine content.
Also, I get coupons for free packs all the time, but I have to redeem them at a store and pay the sales tax on them.
