I’m about a quarter away from a degree in art (graphic design) if that makes you feel any better. Partied too much, drank and drugs, dropped out. Married, had kids, got my life together, graduated in finance and got a real job. Still the old me constantly wants to surface and rekindle the youthful exhuberence, creativity, and nativity that once was. I wonder what about me it illustrates.

You'd probably find a lot to be concerned about there. :p

You couldn't pay me to go. It's a hot desiccated hellhole. Then a big ass fire gets lit, cause you know, it just hasn't been fuckin' hot enough yet. Do it some place/time that's reasonable, and it would be pretty fun. Iceland would be a good choice.
Yeah. Getting ridiculously wasted and then trying to sleep it off in a desert at >50°C doesn't sound fun.

This is pretty interesting. Someone left their 747 fuselage at burning man and BLM wants it gone. Its becoming a tourist spot for local pilots to fly in and visit.

I don't know what to say, or to add. A total muddy mess. Awful. Terrible.

Well, it isn't desiccated this year. Making progress. Let me know when it's in Iceland.

How bad would it suck to spend all the money, resources and time planning a trip to this, taking time off work and all, only to be a complete washout and get stranded with limited food and drinking water in the middle of thousands of people?

Man I wish I went to burning Man back before social media and cell phones exploded. It was definitely more pure. My buddy went some years back, before it became trendy and started to get watered down. No pun intended.

Now with influencers and they even have cell service there Now I think.

I've ridden ATVs in the desert there. That mud is slick.
In high school and after, we used to go to Gerlach to 4X4, see Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds and soak in the hot springs.

I live a little north of Reno. It's been raining most of the day and part of yesterday but it's finally stopping. It was so heavy this morning my car kept feeling like it was to start sliding the whole commute to work and I saw a couple of cars on the side of the road that looked like they spun out so I can only imagine how bad it is in the burning man area with dirt roads.

When it rains that dust turns to ice. Slippery as ice, that is. I almost got permanently stuck half way up a hill/mountain. Everything began turning to ice mud. You can't go up and you don't want to slide down to your death. Somehow, someway, thank god I made it back down to ground level and that was it for me. I was totally covered in mud like those mud wrestlers. Next time I will take the long way. The very long way.
