Have any of you ever been to Burning Man?

You couldn't pay me to go. It's a hot desiccated hellhole. Then a big ass fire gets lit, cause you know, it just hasn't been fuckin' hot enough yet. Do it some place/time that's reasonable, and it would be pretty fun. Iceland would be a good choice.

Yes please (img removed)

I'll tell you right now that about 5% of the women at burning man resemble this, and the rest are dirty ass hippies.

I know a lot of burners, and while some of it appeals to me, the vast majority of it sounds terrible. Burning Man started as a anti-establishment sort of thing - get away from the world, the government, your real life, etc etc but now it's gotten so big they have had to instill all those things in Black Rock anyways.

Plus it's hot as living hell out there and the dust storms are ridiculous.

Experience the art installations through other people's pictures and videos and the various live streams now available and stay at home is my recommendation.

No because the majority of people there are disgusting slobs who use tons of drugs and never bathe. I say this from personal experience. I live in Reno and a lot of the burners come through town on their way to the desert and 99.99% of the ones I've seen are tweakers who look and smell like they haven't showered or used soap in years.

Burning Man has become nothing more than a big party for ultra wealthy SV execs and their hangers-ons. All of the "cool" shit you see like the image in the OP was planned and constructed by a professional designer to the cost of 10s of thousands of dollars. My previous boss went nearly every year, and I think she eventually grew tired of it.

I think the idea is pretty cool, the original intent, but it is so far from what it was. It is supposed to be a limited community designed around bartering and human interaction. Now I think the minimum spent for each participant is about $2k, and you have douchebags like Zuckerburg and Theil helicoptering into the thing for a night to party like nerds with the other nerds on some giant fish-shaped stage that they paid ~$100k to construct.

Love the totally different takes on it. Its of course became what Zin says thats why I have to interest to go there anymore. In the early days it was something special. Same has happened to the the rainbow gatherings and the Vancouver mushroom festival.

I might've enjoyed it back when I... partook... but nowadays, eh I dunno, probably not so much. I think the art would be cool to look at, but that's about the entirety of my interest of it at this point so it just wouldn't be worth it. I'd rather get blown by a school of piranhas than dance so that don't appeal to me, so I'm not sure what I'd do there at this point.

Oh and PixelSquish's pic is f'ing hilarious. Naked old people and almost unlivable = Florida, LOL.

Some friends of ours go every year. One year they tried to convince us to go. We did some research and it was like...WAYYYY too much work. Oh and those girls all have sand in their vagines.

The OP wanting to go to burning man perfectly illustrates what it has become.

I’m about a quarter away from a degree in art (graphic design) if that makes you feel any better. Partied too much, drank and drugs, dropped out. Married, had kids, got my life together, graduated in finance and got a real job. Still the old me constantly wants to surface and rekindle the youthful exhuberence, creativity, and nativity that once was. I wonder what about me it illustrates.

Yea, but you don't toe the progressive line, copying every comma, period, and semicolon. *Celebrate diversity!

*Unless I don't agree with you. In that case you should just kill yourself cause you're a horrible person, and are ruining this country with every breath you take.

I've driven by the venue and imagined what it would be like. I quit the partying a long time ago, and I think it would take some partying to make it bearable. The good old foggy lens effect :p
