Have an H-1B?

We are hiring in the Dayton Ohio area. I think it pays between $60K - $110K. It looks like you have to be in H-1B status between 9/2008 - 9/2011.

Ok I'll show my ignorance... why would you require an H1B instead of considering local candidates?

I was about to ask the same thing. Can I have the name of your company so that I can post about how they discriminate AGAINST American workers? 🙂

:light:

I don't know why, but that really made me LOL.

You may also want to list the type of position. Is this a janitor job? An engineer of some sort? Plumber? 🙂

What difference should that make

Looking for the H1Bmeans that you are attempting to avoid using an American worker.
Many H1Bs end up becoming indentured servants - without the employer, they are deportable.

many companies try to max h1b's before using traditional workers
i dunno
didn't bill gates say something about this last week? he is claiming we need more h1b's

Let's see...the US economy is going into the crapper daily,
Good jobs are getting to be scarcer than hen's teeth...
The company wants to hire foreign workers.

Something VERY wrong with this IMO.

I think it's time to suspend ALL work visas...and hire only American workers.
"Thanks for your labor...now go home."

When a country doesn't have enough jobs for its own people, WHY keep bringing people from other countries to fill jobs?

Of course, that should also mean that we shut down our southern border too...No sense in letting foreigners take the manual labor work too...

There's only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.

:shakes fist:

Youre paying foreign workers to do work that Americans should be doing. Basically, youre giving foreign citizens american dollars......that money will be saved and taken back to whatever country they go back to. We need to keep that money in the US so it can currculate and fuel the economic engine. I personally work with and am friends with many H1B visa guys. They SAVE every penny they can, and invest it back into their home countries (one guy is buying land and building apartments).......that money should be spent here, not there.

As for the manual labor work that mexicans are doing I think that most adult Americans feel this work is beneath them or that it doesnt pay well. Thats fine, I wouldnt want to do it either......but you know who could be doing alot of this work? Teenage kids. My parents made me work since I was 15 years old........kids nowadays dont do it unless they've dropped out of school or had a kid..........im talking generally. They are spoiled.

Don't roll your eyes it's true.

H1B visa holders have tanked our glorius IT industry.

This industry pays half what it would of a decade ago for the same work.

Well, let's be honest here a little. Back in the dot com boom, wages were unrealistically high (similar to the housing boom) where I heard stories of recent undergrads getting starting salaries in the 100,000's.

Also, a lot of software development is a little easier now with .NET, Java and recent IDE's like Visual Studio 2008.

My personal feeling is that I'm okay with hiring H-1B workers. I have very high opinions of foreign student's abilities based on my experience during graduate school. Not competing with them would be like China not allowing American basketball players to play against Yao Ming (We should only allow Chinese players to play with/against Yao Ming so only our players will improve -- we don't want to help American players -- only Chinese players).

My belief is that it might have a slight negative effect for us in the short term, but in the long term it will better for us. We will become stronger and more prosperous like we have in the past -- by being a country that welcomes immigrants.

Historically, whenever countries withdraw into a shell, it has been bad for the country.

H1Bs tend to accept whatever they are given, probably 60K in this case, while locals will try to push for the higher rate 110K.

or locals will accept the 60k because it either that or working a job at foodland.
nothing p1sses me off more not being able to find a job you went through 5 years of college for because you want to give it away to foreign workers.

My experience is foreign, particularly Asian students do great in the academic environment of graduate school. It's when they move out into the workforce where they often fall flat on their face. Most I have worked with have a hard time thinking outside the box, or dealing with unconventional problems.

If you don't hire H1B workers here in the US then companies will go directly to India/China, build plants and hire workers there.
Take your pick.

Why should anyone but me have a say on how my money is spent?
I became a citizen in 2002. You really think I'll spend all my life in America and retire here?

Heck no, I'll be going back home for retirement and will take every penny I've saved with me.

.

This is exactly what's wrong with this whole system. Your not even helping our economy it's almost as if you're just leeching.
