She bought it with a AS IS signed. thats is, she can pack it up her ass with sunshine, its a done deal and she is harassing you for which you can tell her "It was sold as is, it is out of my hands, not my problem, I am sorry it is not working I had no idea its winter time and I havent used it, how was I to know, If I did I would of told you, (BTW Most newer cars the ac will not work when the temp is to cold out side, has to be a certain degree outside before the compressor will kick in), please stop calling me and which if you do not I will have to take legal action against you, thank you and goodnight."

Unless TV lies.

the tv never lies :)

you're safe. I never sell one of our cars without that terming in BOLD lettering and they initial separately next to that line, in addition to the bottom.

Any chance it was a forged/fraudulent cashier's check? Did you call the issuing bank for confirmation BEFORE you handed over the title and keys? Pretty common way to screw people, happens all the time.

What does that have to do with the topic?

If you had known the A/C was broke would you have taken a lower price for the car?

It sounds like you're in the right legally, but that doesn't make it honorable.

did she have a mechanic check out the car? if no, then i lean towards ignoring her
who buys a used car in a private sale without getting it checked?

if anything, only pay half of the repair, she should have had the whole car checked by a mechanic

Wasn't too hard to fix, but I wondered how I missed that

She said the car shakes and idles rough when she turns on the A/C so I don't know whether that's something cheap to fix or not. Oh well, I don't care. Not my problem.

Methinks it's just whatever portion of the car blows the air through running a bit rough. I doubt the entire vehicle shakes and affects the engine just because the A/C got turned on.

She is dumb.

i wouldnt pay anything, ive bought a couple of used cars, and didnt complain when something was a problem after the sale.

its used, something is likely to be broken. if you want something guaranteed get it with a warranty from a dealer, not from some guy out of a newspaper or trader magazine.

hell, when buying a used car, i find its easier to *expect* something to be broken and need fixing, but i dont expect the guy who sold it to me to have anything to do with it after the sale.

Buy a car with a forged cashiers check, then demand/receive costs for repairs...double win for them.

Being that its this cold out right now I bet the car is just having a problem adjusting to trying to kick in the AC.

You seem like you wanted to do the right thing and she is being a b!tch. Tough luck, even if you think paying for it was the right thing to do, she does not recognize that you would be doing a huge favor by paying for it at all. For that reason I would tell her it was as is, stop calling, goodbye.

That's what I did. I will not pay for anything. I felt kinda bad at first, as I am a car noob myself and probably wouldn't have checked the A/C when I am testdriving the car at this cold ass weather but who the hell remembers to do it after the sale and asks the seller to pay for it? I wouldn't myself....

you didn't try to scam her but I think the right thing to do is at least try to make it right or semi right. Offer to split the cost if it isn't too much. Hell maybe it only needs a recharge and it'll only cost a small amount

if the car is at idle then the RPMs might slow down a bit when the compressor engages... might cause a bit of a stir and maybe run a bit slower than usual.... but who cares... she bought it as is

it probably works fine. that is the AC compressor turning on and putting more load on the engine. this means that there is more fuel being used at idle and will have more "shaking".

that's normal. If it blows cold air it works. "shake" is subjective. BTW in your next car even if it's really cold for an extended time I think it's a good idea to run your AC at least once a month

She hasn't got a leg to stand on, and she's trying to milk you (and not in a good way).
