My friend has a son that spends too much time on the internet every night and is failing out of school b/c of it........so is there a proggy that will kill the internet connection at a certain time every night?

My little brother lives with me, and has the same problem. I have a Linksys WRTG-54 and use the access restrictions feature to enable and disable his net connection by his mac address. Works very well.

It's limitted by mac and ip range, so even if he changed his mac address, he won't be able to connect.

I've modified my original mac on my computer from what is printed on the hardware board, and he has no access to my computer. he'd have to run a network mapper to find out what mac I'm using to change it, and if he did that, I'd just manually enable my net connection when I got home to use my computer.

Too much work for him, he's too lazy to invest that much time into it -- he'd rather sleep. But if it was just a scheduled task, I'm sure he'd just delete the task.

You can do it through the registry or some drivers allow you to do it through the hardware control panel property box.

there's a feature to specify that a user can only log in for certain times, but they can't be an admin on the machine. look in the group policy editor.

The question was a bad question. The obvious, easy, and proper question is something along the lines of: How do I discipline my child to do his work in school and to go to bed on time. We're mearly pointing out that the OP asked the wrong question. 🙂

Indeed. No parenting by remote.

I would run switchoff to turn off the comp at a preset time (or after a preset length of time) and cue the kid that it's time for bed. Yea, he can restart the comp, but that's where parental limits need to be enforced.

Forget about "lockdown" everyone needs to take responsibility for their own behavior.
