What are the flight/passengers going to say/do? Whenever I fly with my family, we bring the equivalent of a picnic amount of food. Yeah you get a few dirty looks, mostly out of jealousy. We even bring fresh fruit and on all the flights, taking off is not a problem, it is getting to your destination where you have to declare that kind of stuff to customs (if it hasn't been eaten). I've even taken beer on an airplane before.

I'm actually flying to singapore next week and I'm bringing 4 sandwhiches with me for the flight plus fruit and drinks. The only time I've had good airline food was when i flew in first class so I dont blame you one bit for wanting to bring your own food. And I sure as hell wouldnt pay for it if I had the choice.

Four sandwiches? Do you need a sandwich/food every couple of hours during your flight?

I'm flying to Singapore which is 20 hours of flight plus a 3.5 hour layover in tokyo. I'll eat those 4 sandwhiches and still be starving when I land.

Don't they feed you on that long of a flight? They fed us breakfast, lunch, and dinner when I flew to Vietnam.

They do...but it is airline food...which in my opinions almost always sucks. I might nibble on what they bring me but either the portions are too small or the food tastes reheated or dry or something wrong with it. I always bring food with me when I travel so at least I know I won't starve.

As far as TSA is concerned, food is fine, liquid is not (unless it follows the 3-1-1 rules).

Tip: Bring an empty water bottle. Then you can fill up for free at a drinking fountain instead of paying $4 for a water bottle. Crystal Light and other companies have little pouches to drop in and shake to make juice drinks if you're so inclined.
Excellent idea.

If you have any other questions as to what you can\can't take on board in the US TSA.gov or your airline should have your answer. Internationally, you'll probably have to rely on the airline.

Wait a sec! I thought that food is generally served on International flights from the US? If not, what airline are you flying?

You can bring anything but liquids from outside the "security" zone. Once through security, you can also bring any liquid on board.

That and I would like to think that those sandwiches will go bad on such a long flight. Plus, Toyko will have much yummier food.

Psst... food and alcohol are free and plentiful on international flights. If you show up with food, you'll look like a tool.

bring a durian on the plane

It's illegal to carry durian on transport in many countries, including Singapore. It'd be funny to watch how fast someone gets deplaned for carrying durian on board. Heck, the TSA would probably think it's a biological weapon.

do not bring panda express on to a plane. the smell stays around you for the duration of the flight. worse even when you are stuck 4hrs on the tarmac at JFK

On a east coast to west coast flight I brought two doughnuts and a McChicken sandwich, had no problems eating. They offered expensive sandwiches in the middle of the flight, I'm glad I had my food
