Depends on what kind of traffic that thread gets... if Dell does it everyone else will at some point as well.

Very interesting, I already told them that they needed to do this...
I would love a mobile 9600 128mb board in my lappy!

I think the main problem is that Dell has to manage some way with dealing with idiots who broke their laptop because they dont know the difference between a motherboard and a molex.

i personally think they wont do it.
i mean, first of all they risk the end user breaking their laptop.
second of all, if they send a technician to do it, they'll lose money.
of course, this might be covered by the satisfaction of the customers = more buyers.

If enough people speak up about it they will consider it, and that is better that Dell hears about it than not know about it. The more people that hear about it at Dell, the more it will get around at Dell.

It never hurts to ask :) and if Dell did it, they would be ahead of their competition (the major brands).

Seems that they could require the user to send the laptop to dell, in order to avoid voiding the warranty, but also allow them to self install if they agree that the warranty would then be void. My LCD needs replacing, and they aren't sending me the new LCD - I have to send the whole computer to them, and they send it back with the new LCD. Too bad it won't come with a m9600 as well.

That would cost $$$

S/H would be $, add on the labor costs, and thats $$, and finally the Radeon 9600 costs and its more $$$.

Umm, but would it cost $300 or $400? Last time I looked, every laptop I wanted to buy was in the $3000 range. Sounds like a good deal.

Since the Inspiron 5000 there have been people fitting 'the best that came with that model' into their older laptops. I have an older laptop myself. Even so, I'd LOVE a good vid card upgrade. The only reason I haven't bought one yet is I'm waiting for the 9600 to come out in a laptop with a decent display (the voodoo m:460 is the closest, but I want UXGA, not SXGA+) and a decent form factor (less than 7lbs)
