From my understanding though McDonalds give a lot of opportunity to folks who actually want to excel up the chain. I've heard of regional managers who were burger creation specialists 7 years prior. Tons who moved up to restraunt managers, I would imagine this is just a copy and pasted type deal.

Unless of course the employment is so horrible they have thousands of people applying and have had to raise their standards which would be hilarious.

It was on the local news here, they stated they reached out to confirm and that it was not an error. I agree 100% though that it is crazy, that is a job for high school kids.

McDonald's is a great corporation to work for if you aren't one of their low level employees. I have a friend that is doing a professional internship there for Business.

Everyone has worked there at one time or another. The guy who ran my location got to that position after something like 8 years. He didn't even have a high school diploma but he was running the store like a pro and doing quite well.

20 years from now, I intend to make billions by founding the only remaining company in America that doesn't require a college degree for unskilled labor.

Speaking of McDonalds when are they ever going to bring back 2 for 2 (Big Macs?) I'd likely give up my paleo ways if they did this for a few weeks, so bad yet so good mmm.

I'm pretty sure the owner of that specific McDonald's franchise is a wee-bit out of sync but maybe diploma inflation has finally arrived in that part of the US.

However I'll wait and see but I betting on the latter IMHO. Oh and on side note McDonald's is one of the leaders in franchise businesses which have the largest growing population of minority owners for their burger franchises but there are others who are also part of this trend.

I wouldn't bet on that. I would be more likely to bet on a low turnover location with a pool of overqualified applicants.

I mean, how would you (legally) differentiate a pool of applicants for a job that requires no more than a 6th grade reading level?

Remember, if you leave it to your hiring person you may be exposed to discrimination lawsuits if they don't hire minorities in the correct % based on applicants.

College education is also a good indicator for a number of other factors you can't legally hire based on. Age, for example.

This could also be because a HS diploma doesn't mean much anymore. If anything, I'd like to see HS become much tougher, to the point where graduating is a real accomplishment.

We were shown a chart of how important education was in predicting your future class in society.

The chart ended in 2005 and around 2001/2002 education had started to plummet in importance and nothing else was rising. So no one actually knows what it takes to be successful now in society. I was of course a jackass and raised my hand and said "It looks like it was starting to decline and then the chart ends" which was the total opposite point he was trying to make, heh, anyway.

Its Nepotism now. Which wasn't on the chart.

You're welcome.

The skill required to choose combo 2 and pick a drink is learned by... Kindergarten? Maybe 3rd grade at the latest. The register does all the math.

Degree doesn't matter its who you know. Get over it!

There was a point in time that degrees mattered. And thats over. Those who got their job explicitly because of their degree, in the right time and place, are having their minds blown.

Overeducated and underemployed

53% of Recent College Grads Are Jobless or Underemployed—How?

Federal Government decided that everyone should buy a house. What could possibly go wrong?

Anyone see a pattern here?

Back when I was in grade 12 I worked at a coffee shop. I was training a kid in grade 10 on the till. It was easy - person orders a coffee, you punch the button that says coffee. You do that with everything they order, hit subtotal, punch in how much they give you, hit cash, and it tells you how much to give them back.

I actually wanted to buy something so I got him to ring something up for me. I gave him cash, and the till said he owed me $1.45.

He stared at the change for a few seconds, then reached for the nickels. He counted out 15 cents, paused, put the nickels back, then started counting them out again.

"Uh, you don't actually need to use the nickels. I mean, you could, but you shouldn't use them."

"Ah! Right. Got it now. Thanks."

He started counting out pennies, paused, put them back. Then he picked up 3 quarters...

He was in grade 10 and had a letter of recommendation from a teacher.
