I'm building a budget pc, and so far I have the motherboard and cpu, case, monitor, and peripherals. The mobo and cpu are the ECS + Sempron 3100+ combo, and I plan on getting 1GB of CSV PC3200 RAM.

I'm looking for a decent AGP card that's new or used for $140 max (preferably $120 or less). I do a lot of encoding and I want to be able to play Oblivion at medium settings if possible, or at the very least without it running slow with <25 FPS. Might be asking too much for a sub $200, I guess.

I just picked up a BFG 6800GT OC less then 6 months old from the for sale forum here for $150 shipped. Complete with the original sales receipt for the liftime warranty.

Just keep shopping, you'll find something.

i looked at newegg and saw that x800xl for 179, a steal but it is not in stock.
they also have a x800gto for a decent price, but still, not in stock.

i had to settle for the x1600pro 512mb agp for $139. My x800pro died on me and I know it's not as good as that, and benchmarks put it at the 6600gt level. But I also heard that the benchmarks and what you actually see is a different story. Don't get me wrong, if you're trying to get fps from a shooter game, this is prolly not the card for you. But I play WOW, NeverwinterNights, WC3 froz throne, and am going to buy oblivion. I'll get my card friday, and will post my feedback after then. I am trying to figure out how to install my arctic cooler from my dead x800pro on that x1600pro so I can oc it maybe to x1600xt speeds.

I hope the 512 actually helps. I watch tv through my comp also, I have a 22" sony crt so I'm hoping keeping one window for the tv, and one for gaming will actually be feasible with the 512 mb onboard ram and 2500x1900 (? something like that) resolution...btw I use the dual display..and use an old 17"lcd just for the tv.

and to end my novel...I was thinking of buying a nice used card also, but most of those cards are over 2 years old and My x800pro died at 2.5 years...how much longer will I have had to play with a nice 6800gt used card...I went cheap and got a x1600pro b/c at least it'll have warranty and will last until I upgrade to pci-e sli or crossfire.

A x1600pro or a 6600gt is probably the best new card you can get in AGP for under $140. If you check out the FS forum you may find 6800 or a x800pro, maybe one that's even unlocked to 16 pipes. In either case, both would give you a substantial boost in performance over the 2 cards I mentioned at first.

definetely buy from here, not retail, u cant get very good cards worth your money for that much. like others are saying, 6800GT or X800(whatever extention, probably XL is what u want). also, a 6800GS could be ideal. dont worry, ull get it :)

well the thing is they might be "old" models because of the MASS releases the 2 vcard monsters released in the past very little while, however if u analyze a lil closer, they havnt been out all that long and will last for quite awhile to come (this being the 6800 and x800xl im referring to -- x850 as well coming from the mouth of a complete nVidia fan)
