His brother the executioner is still in power. Mind you my country, Canada, has had diplomatic relations with them all along. Cuba has always been a popular resort destination for Canadians.

People always lack context about the Cuban revolution. It's always the "Triumph of Socialism over capitalism bringing justice to the common man!" or "Thieving dirty revolutionary scum stealing people's rightful property!".

Personally I'm of the opinion that the guys on the street were better off after the revolution and would have been a lot better off without the shenanigans played by the US.

That must be why the body count was so low on those attempting to get away.

Ive been saying for some time now, the Cuban Revolution happened, and the Cuban Revolution happened for a reason.

During the revolution or after?

Fidels Cuba wasnt a good country, it was a dictatorship, but it was almost certainly still a lesser evil than Batistas Cuba, even for the common Cuban, if not especially for the common Cuban.

Yeah. The Batista government was hideously oppressive and was just interested in enriching the elite.

The post revolutionary government may have been oppressive but it was a lot better for the poor.

Thats how/why most revolutions happen.
