Hauppauge TV-PCI help

Ok, I built a AMD TB 900mhz system with AOpen MK33 (yes, size mattered this time around) with built in sound, IBM 75GXP? 30GB HD, Elsa TNT2 Vanta 16MB, 256MB PC100 Corsair Value RAM, NEC Zip, Sony 48x CD Drive, and a Linksys NIC, and finally, the Hauppauge WinTV pci.

The problem at first was the under Win98se, the computer would freeze under heavy internet use and tv viewing at the same time. So I reformatted the hard drive, did a fresh install of Win2kPro, and now, the TV quality plain stinks. Under Win98se, the picture was sharp and clear, but now it has lines across the screen, and blurry picture quality. Sent the techs at Hauppauge an email, but no response yet.

I tried the win2k and winnt drivers on the CD, as well as the latest ones on the internet. I also read the FAQ and did everything it told me to try (since supposedly there may be trouble with VIA and TNT2), even the settings in the bios with the video shadow and everything. I installed the latest drivers from VIA also, but no cigar... any suggestions?

is the primary set to allow overlay? I have a VIA chipset with a WIN tv theator. I got no problems here.

but there drivers still suck. start in safe mode and look in devise manager and see if there are any of dem Yellow question marks.

I tried all the three choices, primary, overlay, and one other one

no yellow icons either, everything works fine, the qualit is just horrible now...

May not be related but I'm using a wintv pci niacam card in win2k.

The reception on the card is EXTREMELY poor and I had to use a 15db signal amp just to get a watchable picture off of a roof mounted aerial (same aerial gives a perfect picture on a regular television without the amp).

it might be your TNT 2 card. my picture improved when I got my Gforce DDR. I had a voodoo3 2000 PCI. so that might be it. the picture is not that good anyway you cut it though.

well the thing is that the picture was fine under win98, but the program would freeze under heavy use. now with win2k, the picture is no good at all. The cables are the same cables, just the operating system changed.

maybe i will just try switch the card to a different PCI slot... anyone know if this may have something to do with ACPI? I doubt it, but just in case.

This problem has to do with IRQ conflicts.
I had my Hauppage WinTV PCI on the same IRQ as my network card and got crashes all the time when using the internet.
Once I switched the IRQs, everything was fine.

thanks, i thought that was so too, but after fiddling around with the IRQ, I got the tv card just by itself on an IRQ (with IRQ Steering for PCI though... don't think I can get rid of that), but the same problem... just wish Hauppauge tech support would tell me something.

anyone else have any suggestions? maybe the vid card is not getting enough cooling and freezing up, and the picture quality is because of the drivers...
