After I click less than 8 times when WinTV is on (perfectly fine before then), the computer hangs up, becomes unresponsive, and requires rebooting. It happens every time. I used the latest Win2k drivers and software from Hauppauge.com. Any ideas? I do not want to have to sell it to someone else without this combination where it'll work perfectly :(

SPECS:
AMD 1.333ghz
Iwill KK266
SB Live Platinum 5.1
ATI Radeon 64mb
Hauppauge WinTV/FM
Windows 2000

Specs:
AMD Tbird 1GHZ
Abit KT7
SBLive Value
CLabs 3D Annihilator MX
Hauppage WinTV (No FM :( )
Windows 2000

When I run the viewer program it will randomly blue screen and i gotta reboot. I've got two culprits in mind. Some type of incompatibility directly between Windows 2000 and WinTV Software (As it works fine in the same box under win98). 2nd culprite is that the actualy wintv box isn't powered by an external source and win2k reports its drawing 500mA of power which is the max for the entire hub. And thats when its NOT in use. I haven't had a chance to check what its power draws are when its in use as I just found this out a little while ago and I'm working on something else. I'll repost my findings on power drain later. This is a known problem with win2k and hauupage software but they won't fess up to it and fix the damn problem... Chalk it up to crappy foreign software houses. ........ I donno but I'd love to get it fixed. If anyone has any solutions please let us know... When it works its really a nice little toy :)

I have also used this card, and had the random lockups. I think this is a hardware lockup...the hauppage cards are kinda crappy imho. I moved it to a different machine, and seems to be okay. I think it's just an issue of poor design more than anything else. I've had all kinds of probs with this card on two separate systems, then i moved it to the machine it's on now. Two out of three IS bad. I recommend you guys get a different card, these ones seem to be real duds.

I agree... its most likely poor design. However mine is an extenal unit with USB hookup. Moneys a little thin right now so I don't think that getting a whole new card is a particularly viable option unless I can do a swap on the FS/T Forums.

i'm having problems with my audio for my hauppauge...actually i tried the normal wintv pci and the dolby version. it seems like the drivers can never work out in my system. i've tried both cards in three different pci slots. the drivers for the audio never works so no irq are assigned. lost cause now. :(

so i have to resort with my stuff hooked up to the s-video in and the audio hooked up to the sb live drive to allow me to watch tv (via vcr) and dvds.

I have an ATI TV Tuner and experienced similar problems... What was wrong is you need Direct X 8. I'm not sure if it's supplied in Service Pack 2, i can't see how it wouldn't be. Once i had that installed everything was fine. My housemate runs Win 2k with a hauppauge and i can't recall him having any trouble with it under DX 7a but he also doesn't use it that much.

On the hardware side, I believe having the tuner on the first PCI slot, next to the AGP, is a bad idea. Leads to conflicts... But i'm not completely sure about that one.

Hope some of that helps

i'm running DX 8a so I'm set there but I'm still having problems. And since I have an external USB unit I don't have the PCI problem. What I'm hearing is alot of people have the same problem in one way or the other but Hauppage doesn't have any answers for us.

I do have DX 8a. I don't have an internal card so the PCI slot isn't my problem. It seems like alot of people are having similar experiences but Hauppage isn't comin up with any answers. Lets keep this thread going. Maybe we can get Hauppage to take notice and fix this crap.

I never got my WinTV PCI card to work in my Win2K system, but that was almost a year ago. I guess the problems still aren't solved. It has been running great in my wife's Win98 machine, however.

Yes thats true. On this box wintv crashes under 2k but runs perfectly in 98se... That narrows it down to a win2k / software/ driver conflict.

IMHO Haupauge is a crappy company. I had a problem with distorted cursors and windows when running WinTV and my 98 Desktop at 1600x1200. The Technical Support rep told me to just not run at that Resolution... They know they have a problem with anything above 1024x768 and yet they do nothing to fix it. I definitely won't buy another Hauppauge card.

I may have a solution. but don't get your hopes up. I got in touch through email with a particularly helpful rep at hauppage. He sent me WinTV USB 2.53 software. I'm gonna stress test and see if stays stable. I can't find it anywhere on there site so I assume its unreleased. If it does work I'll upload it somewhere and link it. not sure if it'll work for PCI card owners, I don't believe it will. But you can most likely expect a PCI release along with its official USB release.

I had one of these for about a week. It disabled my Microsoft Front Page permanently, even after I took it out.

I emailed the tech support and didn't get a response for 2 days.

I returned the card and restored Windows from a back-up I made a week earlier.

About a week later I got a response from tech support that said I should upgrade to Internet Explorer 5.5 to fix my problem with Front Page. Go figure on that one?

they're arguably worse than the 2.43s.... theres a triple click on startup... a click everytime you change the channel, and now instead of bluescreening it simply stops... the image freezes and the sound keeps going.... no matter of fidgiting will get it to start again. however the program can be closed and restarted and it will work again. I've let it run for many many hours and never had a bluescreen but it had also stopped displaying an updated image... make your decision... out of the lava into raging river...

i have had similar problems with this card. I have a PCI TV/FM tunner.

It was first used in this system:
Duron 650
MSI K7T Pro2A
SB Live
Radeon LE 32MB DDR
Windows 2000

and now this system:
K6-3 400
Asus P5A
Radeon LE 32MB DDR
Windows 2000

With both systems, I get blue screens if I do something that uses a lot of CPU power while the TV is running. Also, the TV would not work in overlay mode untill more recent Radeon drivers. The problems are the same in the two systems, though.

I had origunally bought some crap TV card from some unknown company, but returned it imidiatly because the drivers were WORSE. I then bought this card, hopeing to get some decent drivers, but that obviously did not happen. I decided to keep this card and wait for some better drivers because i do not use the TV part that much. I mostly use the FM tuner.

I am going out of town for a few days, but when I get back I might mess with it some if anyone comes up with suggestions.

The Greatest common factor here seems to be Win2K... news flash to Hauupage : UN-SCREWUP YOUR WIN2K DRIVER SUPPORT!

I had my WinTV-D work without any problems in win2k SP2. I don't know about these problems not existing in win98se because i had them in there. but i don't know why everyone is having problem. I gave my brother the WinTV because i didn't like the quality. plus i got an ATI All in wonder radeon for $120.
