Haunting ghost pointer in games

I have a problem with a stationary image of my pointer displaying on different parts of the screen when I load and play certain games including Neverwinter Nights 2 and Age of Conan. The regular movable and usable pointer is there as well but flickers and is hard to use. I have updated my drivers for my 2 7950 GTs and the games are updated. The problem always goes away if I load the games after a fresh reboot but if I've played and quit or done other things on my computer and then try to play the haunting pointer artifact shows up.

any ideas?

a +1 mouse of ghost touch would be sufficient.

have you tried Alt-Tabbing in and out of the game? maybe a background program is popping up somehow?

I have seen flash adds in a minimized browser do this, i would bet its another application or background process.
