I just got the Droid and I can't port my number so now is the time to switch to GV and give all my contacts the GV number. Please save me from eBay ^_^

I have voice and wave invites if anyone wants them. PM me your email

By the way OP, why can't you port your #? They're required to let you do that.

Required? I thought it was just a service that most consider a norm, but isn't a requirement.

I think its a law now

I have GV, but I just clicked the 'I want to join' button on the page and a day later I got an 'invite' from google.

No Wave but I did the same with Google Voice. Just clicked on the request to join and about a week later, I had an invite from Google.

as Zargon said, it is absolutely required by FCC law now.

The original provider may require a service charge, and that can be different for each wireless provider.

The OP may be locked into a contract with his old provider, but the number can still be ported, as long as the ETF is paid, and then likely any Wireless Portability charge.

For people asking for GV invites, have you tried signing up on the site? I've had about 10 friends/coworkers sign up and they all got invites. Took them between 1 day to 1 week max.

I screwed up, I didn't know they were required to port and I just cancelled one before starting the other. Several other people have let me know of this error as well.

Edit: Wow! this thread has turned into an invite exchange, can a mod re-name it and make it official? (pretty sure I can't edit thread name under vBulletin)

They are trying to get laws passed to make people change their phone numbers when they move to different area codes now with their cell phones.

Alot of people in IL dont want to give up their 312 area codes

The quickest way to get one, would probably be to pay the 2-3 bucks for one on eBay.

I paid 1.99 for one, and had the link instantly.
