That's pretty rough. Obviously the action is wrong and unhelpful, but I wonder how we can do better to navigate the feelings and perceptions that brought it about. The topics of race, religion, and authority are ones I think we are restrained from exploring fully, and it isn't a surprise to me that someone would act them out.

I'm a lifelong NY'er. Going on 17 years working in manhattan. Have Family who worked in the news industry and FIL worked at the Daily News for close to 50 years. In those circles it not on common for folks having worked for both papers and hang out.
NY Post and The Daily News are the go to papers around here and I have taken massive craps at work with both comfortably resting on lap.
I tend to refer to both papers on a first name basis when they are mentioned.
They payed for my wife's education and a lot of our wedding gifts.
