Well hair is already dead cells so it doesn't breathe..

I haven't heard that before. Sounds like one of those strange parental superstitions. As long as you don't wear a skin-tight cap that restricts blood flow to your scalp, you shoudl be fine. Most hats are made out of breathable material anyhow.

Most times hats cause a build up of sweat and grime - causing damage to hair folicles. So keep it clean and loose.
At the same time you can wear a hat to protect from the sun to help prevent hair loss.

fvck i'm 20 years old and my hair is noticeably thinner in the front. started like 1-2 years ago even!
i don't usually give a sh1t how i look but i hate the look of thinning hair. i shouldn't have to worry about this for 30 years!! in my perfect world. hehe.

According to late night infomercials DHT causes hairloss.....I don't know how I would learn anything without infomercials...j/k
Do youR research.....wearing a hat causes hair loss. Period.
But the fact that it is extremely prevalent in your family means you're probably bald by 30 (depending on your family). Sorry. Take some precautions now and you may be able to prolong it.

It is heredity, or the propensity for hair loss, that is causing your family members to go bald. Wearing a hat does not, in and of itself, cause hair loss.

Myth: Wearing a hat causes hair loss.
Fact : As long as you don't regularly wear a hat that's so tight that it restricts circulation--blood flow to the hair follicles--this will not cause hair loss. It can, however, damage hair because of the effects of sweat, dirt, and skin particles that can clog pores.
Please provide a peer reviewed, repeatable, published study that shows wearing a hat causes permanent hair loss.

Really, though, I still believe that wearing hat often can cause hair loss. I don't care what those so-called experts say. I don't particularly like guys who wear hats all the time, as I'm afraid they'll go bald. And it isn't pretty, since they don't usually get rid of everything on their heads.

Bull. Been wearing a cap for 20 years. got a full head of hair. It's hereditary. Check on your mothers' side of the family. You inherit that trait from her.
I used to wear a hat all the time, I was thinning a little bit in the front and the hat hid it. Then I got tired of it and stopped wearing a hat. I look so much better now without the hat.

Want "proof" in an example?: Turn a bucket upside down on the lawn. Remove it after a few days . . . grass is dying where it was covered . . . of course, your hair is tougher than grass - BUT, same principle.
talk to 30 year old guys who have worn construction hats for a few years. How about professional athletes expecially football. hats cause hair loss!!
