Haswell Xeon Hyperthreading

I recently built a server based on a Xeon E3-1225V3 CPU running on an Asus P9D-V motherboard. This is a Haswell based CPU. My understanding is this model is a quad core CPU which does not support hyperthreading. And yet, Windows 7 Pro reports 8 cores in the task manager. What gives?
 
Not unhappy, just perplexed. And hoping I didn't configure something wrong. Mostly I just stuck with the defaults in the BIOS. 🙂

I was thinking something along these lines as well. The E3-1225 allegedly has graphics built in, but my mobo chipset (C224) doesn't support that, so I can't prove it beyond doubt. It is a strange occurrence.

Not sure why it would show as a 1225 in CPU-Z if it were 'mis-binned'?

Hmmmm....

Now people are going to be tearing the Asus Bios apart to see how it magically turned on hyperthreading on a non-hyperthreaded core (or so says Intel! :sneaky🙂
 
HT isnt physically shut off, it is just turned off by greed and microcode.

I know a guy who used to write BIOS/microcode for CPU's and he knows how to turn it on 😀

As far that I know, no one knows exactly what degree of features are available if you were able to modify the microcode. I guess both Hyper Threading, features flags (VT-d, TSX, etc), and max Multiplier could be touched with it.
After all, didn't Intel themselves released a few Processors models that were upgradeable with a code unlocking Cores, Cache L3 or higher Frequency? Indeed there must be a way.

I am at the opinion that your BIOS isn't 'coded properly' for this chip and has the hyperthreading turned on (as stated above). Once Intel gets wind of this, I'm sure that Asus will issue a prompt, new BIOS to address this serious issue! 😉
