Haswell-E DDR4 and 12-16 Cores [Fudzilla Rumor]

Pretty exciting rumor, if true. This takes a little sting off the IB-E rumors of no additional cores and makes me think I should wait for Haswell-E for my next upgrade.

According to Fudzilla, the Haswell-E will have from 12 to 16 cores, a TDP of 130 W, and support for DDR4 memory that promises to deliver exponentially more bandwidth than previous generations of processors.

Considering that the EX platform for the serverside haswell doesn't even have 16 cores - i'd consider this completely unlikely.

A bunch of marlarkey actually.


Hopefully they'll raise from 6 - but to expect double is... yea i don't know want to pay 2000 dollars? or more?

I though only IB-EX was confirmed 15 cores.. I havent heard anything about Haswell-EX yet.

IB-EP is up to 12-cores, Haswell-EP could offer more. According to VR-Zone (rumour?) Haswell-EX is 16-20 cores and Haswell-EP is up to 14 cores. If that is true we'll probably have 8-core Haswell for desktop enthusiasts.

I could see 12-16 threads perhaps, but doubtful it is cores. Maybe someone saw a Task Manager screenshot of a prototype rig, and that's where this rumor came from?

I don't see exclusive news apart from the last where he was wrong as well. He told the edram is only used to save power which is wrong. His first news about stacked dram also was big bullshit (about GT2 and the interposer). 1-2 years ago he told Ivy bridge will get stacked dram, it never happened. He told AMD cancelled Steamroller, since Kaveri with Steamroller cores is confirmed another bullshit. I'm tired to give you more examples. I follow Charlie aka clown regularly and almost all of its exclusive news, especially about Intel and Nvidia, are bullshit and full with polemic. He is unreliable as hell and badly biased pro AMD.

Well its obviously not exclusive now, as they've been confirmed by other sources... often a long time after he broke the story. But those are all examples of him breaking the story first.

He said that Ivy Bridge (which has the same fundamental graphics design as Haswell) would get on package DRAM. It turns up one generation later in Haswell- under the heatspreader, on an interposer, just like he said it would in Ivy Bridge. http://semiaccurate.com/2010/12/29/intel-puts-gpu-memory-ivy-bridge/ And if they're shipping the feature right now, you can be pretty damn sure they had prototypes of it with Ivy Bridge. He broke the news of this feature waaaaaay before anyone else even had a scent of it- it just seems to have slipped a single generation.

Yeah, that one is a genuine slip up as far as I can tell. Either AMD have flat out lied (unlikely), or Charlie got it wrong.

There are low power variants for GT2 as well, are you aware of that? You can be sure that a GT3 low power model outperforms a GT2 low power version. And furthermore in your link he stated this:

Wrong wrong wrong. There will be 1300 Mhz GT3e models for performance Notebooks (47W) as well as BGA desktop models (65W).

Interestingly enough,(supposedly) Intel had GT3 and edram ready to go for IVB. If apple(or anyone else) had been willing to cough up the cash for it they could have had it exclusively. But Apple opted to save their money and wait until it was generally available on HSW.

I'm with Charlie on this. AMD shouldn't have made it an official decision, but everyone inside a project can see when it's not going forward.

because richland never existed in any roadmap, and steamroller got delayed
