Sure, we're still a good three months away from retail availability...but...you can pre-order the new proc from CPU World or PC SuperStore.

Pre-ordering is a nutball idea championed by marketeers.

Wait for more benchmarks + wait for competition in the marketplace before locking yourself into a preorder situation.

Preorders are almost never in the interest of the buyer.

Fanboys don't care.

Would a Haswell i5 4500K be a viable upgrade for my i5 2500K at 4.5GHz? How well will Haswell overclock compared to Sandy Bridge?

Should I wait for this to come out or should I just order an i5 now? I really, really need a new computer...never pulled the trigger on the past few builds I posted.

It's hard to say how the i5-4670K (the Haswell successor to your 2500K) will do before the benchmarks come in.

FalseChristian: I have the exact same mb as you. I live @60 miles from a MicroCenter so I made a power run, snagged the retail 3770k for $229.99 plus tax (here in PA 6%) for a total of $243.79. Sold my 2500k for $145 so I didn't have a great out of pocket expense. I must say the 3770k is a very powerful chip.

Haswell is clearly the newest but requires a new mb also.

Intel is really making me bored. Same # cores, same clocks, same boost clocks, same cache.... yawn. Cmon AMD.. release steamroller already.

I am more interested to see Haswell in my work notebook. Time to give this HOT 1st gen Core i3 a rest.. HD 2000 Graphics...um... well... yeah they suck. Looking for a decent dual-core with some decent graphics. You know, for playing Skyrim on lunch :D

Ended up buying a 3570K instead of waiting. I'm not sure if Haswell will be a big upgrade from that. At least not for what I'm doing (audio engineering)

It's tempting for me as well. I've been waiting years to upgrade. First I waited for Sandy Bridge, then Ivy Bridge... and now I'm waiting for Haswell. Haswell is the one I'll pull the trigger on for sure though (After this long, anyway).

Sitting at a C2D E7200 since July '08. (E6300 when they first came out before that. Sold a couple systems with those though)

Completely new micro-architecture. Your precious "Steamroller" will be hitting the shelves in 2-4 core configurations at first.

With lower IPC, higher power consumption, and probably a worse overclocker thanks to this being AMD's first shot on GloFo's 28nm process.

I wouldn't hold my breath for Steamroller...and I won't be. Want more cores? Buy a SNB-E or an IVB-E.

Same can be said about lottery tickets, but people still have a blast buying them.

I agree... With Intel, you always know it's going to be better. With AMD, its a surprise. I read about AMD for entertainment and buy Intel because I want a superior processor.
