I know that the G1820 is rated for 54W, but I highly doubt it draws that much, even at full load.

Me too,i got a dedicated gpu in there and a case with only a single 80mm intake and the psu acting as a exhaust the G1820 has hit 52 CEL max.Room was roasty when i took that temp reading.

Cpu fan is set to quiet mode on the motherboard,the cpu heatsink is super cheap and dinky.I was almost afraid i would break the thing when i plopped it on the chip.

i5 2500 non k with its stock cooler and even some AS5 i am usually hitting upper 70s and on max load lower 80's.Max fan as well. Good case.

6100. Newegg didn't have the 6100T, and it's going in a standard desktop micro-ATX board for now.

You going to try to down clock it / lower voltage to see how low in power you can go? I'm interested to see how low you can push this and still be fully functional.

I don't know, sorry. I was just curious since you stated you wanted the 35W model and ended up buying a 54W model.

Wonder how much power my wifes G1820 uses compared to the 4170T.I believe its rated for 54w but what kind of magic allows a higher clocked chip with HT to use less power?Do the clocks drop dramatically low when its fully utilized?

Is it all in the IGP?

I don't think I've seen a review where the 4970K uses just 88 watts under a significant load. From what I recall it's always 100+

It reminds me of Samsung's SSD power consumption figures although nothing is that bad. It was amusing to compare their figure with Anandtech's actual power consumption data.

You should be able to use one of the various utilities to see what the core power is in real-time (HW Info, Intel XTU, etc). In my testing the previous Ivy Bridge Celeron G1620 peaks at <13W package power and 8W core power running Cinebench R15.

Can't find any on Ebay as single CPUs, curious that.

They will be available on eBay. It takes half-year from launch date when all the returned PCs with cracked screens, or CPU upgrades by DIYers come in at recycling centers.
