If we are talking about handheld games, ala vta, psp, ds, 3ds, then I'm pretty lukewarm on them.

I own all the systems, and there are some great games for them.

But, at the end of the day, I'd rather be playing on my big screen tv. I don't have alot of chances, or the need, to play games when I'm not at the house.

If we are talking phone/tablet games...hate them for the most part. I only own a few, and the only ones worth half a crap are the ps1/psp ported games, and even then I'd rather be playing those on the original system.

Well, it doesn't help that I've never understood the charm of tower defense or angry birds type games. I've always just found them boring.

Well isn't this interesting. Today xcom was released on iPad. The full game and it seems to be pretty complete. It is $20 but seems a good example of a game that is suitable to touch screen, I have to admit I am intrigued as I only played the demo when it came out.

I've played X-com on the PC and it was pretty good. Actually played it on this rig:

It was pretty good. There are some good Mobile games. Is it available on Android?

Phone and tablet games are good distractions for a few moments, though I'm more likely to check the news and my RSS feeds. Most of the games I would want to play on handheld consoles from Nintendo or Sony would usually require long enough sessions that I wouldn't be able to play them away from home much, and if I'm at home I wouldn't want to play on such a small screen when my monitor and TV are ready and waiting.

The original DS launched the fall after I graduated from high school. I played the hell out of my GBA because I had the time and right situations for it. After that, just about any time I had where I could game I was at home, so I had almost no interest in the DS or anything else since. Occasionally I see a game for a DS or PSP and think that I should find a used system for cheap or borrow one. Then I remember my backlog for home consoles and PC and realize that for me it just isn't worth it right now.

I'm actually catching up on my backlog, so once I'm about done with that and still waiting for a price drop and/or hardware revision on next gen consoles maybe I'll mess with some handheld console games. My view on phone and tablet games remains unchanged - generally overpriced for poor controls and limited gameplay, and poorly suited for longer play sessions.
