has your house or car ever been broken into?

I use to live in Modesto CA and had my car broken into twice. They broke my windows once, that was the worst part. Since moving out of there, no problems.

House? no
But I;v only lived in a college dorm, apt and now a 4 bedroom house since January till May.

Car? No
But im paranoid as fuck. I have a decent GPS, and a sub in the trunk. No fancy HU or anything else.

Yeap 3 guys, 1 older ring leader and 2 younger kids. They raided the whole block middle of the day. My dad happened to walked in as they were running out the back door of the house. We were poor back then, we had crappy awia (forgot the name) single cd player and we paid like 199 for it in like 1996, and they were trying to unhook it.. we had generic vcr and stuff..

The most expensive thing they took was our camcorder, it was a sony hi 8, had our vacation videos.. Thats the only thing we would want back..

The funny thing was my dad chase them half way out the back yard but he turned around because he thought there might be more people in the house taking other stuff. They drop a bunch of stuff, portable cd players, small boom box in our back yard. This was in 1998

As far as I can remember none of my homes(mostly apartments) or vehicles have ever been broken in to, the same applies to my parents' homes and cars. That said both my parents and I have had our cars kicked hard enough to leave dents.

Both, had a stereo stolen out of my truck once(right in front of the front office at work, took him about a minute). Had multiple times of cassette tapes stolen. Had my first 22 pistol stolen from my room when I was a teenager, cops knew who did it, told him to bring it back and that would be the end of it. The post office was shot up in a nearby town, and the gun was in the mailbox the next morning. No one ever connected the two events but me, but I'm pretty sure my gun was the one used to shoot up the post office.

In DC back when I was in the Navy I stopped to run into a CVS for a pack of smokes and found a guy in my car when I returned. Being young and stupid I went up to the car and asked wtf? He told me the guy in the pimpmobile parked behind my car had stolen my stereo and he was putting it back. 🙄 He then exited my car without my new cassette deck in hand. Funny thing is the deck was not installed because it was faulty and I was going to return it to the Navy Exchange next time I was on base.

yeah, car ... took shiity amp, and change.

bastards broke my arm rest though, must have been fat..so now I put my change in a zip lock bag, so if they try to take it, they wont ruin anything.

they skipped my uni books ... worth $600~ the deck, ipod in glove compartment (yet hte glove compartment was open too, LOL?)

It was late night, a few peoples cars got broken in to.

Just about a month ago I had my Truck broken into. They smashed my driver's window and took my sunglasses. Left my nice jacket and CD case. Nothing special about the sunglasses, just some $20 sunglasses.

I had someone selectively go through my cassette case in my car, and steal some of the tapes. That was 20+ years ago, and I still chuckle over it :^D

I had my car when I was 16 broken into twice. Once for my gameboy and the second time for a box of magic the gathering cards (I was playing it way back then) that had a decently high dollar value. It was also what precipitated me into stop playing that game back then.

Now, I've had my car keyed several times though.

I had a convertible many years ago and someone slashed the top while I was away on vacation. They didn't even steal anything...not that there was anything in there to steal.

My first car was broken into several times back in the early 90s. One time they took the stereo and some tapes. Another time they took a portable CD player and CDs. The time I was most angry about was when they broke in and took a basketball and some spare toll change. What they took didn't amount to more than $25, but the repairs to the door lock that they screwed up breaking were like $100+.

No to either thankfully.

We have had our mailbox knocked off a couple times...hasn't happened in a while though. I considered filling my mailbox with concrete next time...

Both - yes, unfortunately.

House - the neighborhood was gettting worse and worse and I moved out even I had great friendship with the landlord. The rent was reasonable too.

Car - bastard(s) broke the window and stole the CD player in daytime at a hotel. Classic case of smash and grap, probably a druggie needed some cash for his/her fix.

Had my van conversion broken into. We actually got lucky. My wife had forgotten to close the garage door and I also believe that she left the van unlocked. Early morning hours around 5am I heard one of my miniature daschounds barking downstairs. Anyway they stole the 22" LCD TV out of the Van Conversion and the DVD Player. I think they also entered the garage and then started to come into the house but got spooked when the dog started barking at them even though it was in a pen. We came downstairs and they had already left. They didn't take anything out of the garage or the house. The police came and took a report. Out of the deal we got a new 23" LCD TV for the van and new DVD player. The LCD TV that was in there wasn't made anymore and they couldn't find anyone that had one in stock. The insurance then had to pay for a new header in the high top part of the van for the replacment model of the TV since the van conversion company had moved on to a new model. I love the new TV since it now has IR headphones with it so my children can watch TV in the back and I don't have to listen to it. So basically I paid $500 for a new TV that was 1" bigger and had IR headphones. I am now fairly paranoid about making sure the garage is shut before I go to bed. The best part was that the where spooked by at 11lb miniature daschound.

after the first time my car got broken into, my parents said that I should just leave the doors unlocked, that way I at least wouldn't have to pay for the window damage if someone wanted into my car, but I was always worried that I'd come out of work at midnight to find some crack head shooting up in my back seat.

this was back when I worked nights (4 pm - 12 am) in a shitty neighborhood... the only 24-hr parking garage in the area charged $250/month, and at that rate, even replacing my window once/month was still the cheaper option.

My neighborhood is failing victim to burglaries and a lousy police dept. On crime maps we always show burglaries each month when even in the worst areas they are at 1/10th the rate.

On the 16th some career criminal (which sadly the police couldn't find in their database at the time) drove up to one of my neighbor's homes, parked in their driveway, then went and knocked on the front door. During the time waiting, he put his face directly in one of the 8+ cameras they have and laughed and pointed at it.

He then went around back and did the same thing prior to cutting out the rear window in the door (they had an alarm, but no glass breaks or motions).

He stole a ton of mostly jewelry and left out the front door.

The lady of the home lost an important set of jewelry. She proceeded to take time off and do a circle of all the pawn/jewelry stores in a 5 mile radius. She did this all day, everyday.

She ended up seeing him leaving one, called the police and they caught him.

Now AFTER the fact they have been able to link him to 8 crimes in my neighborhood (2 were very violent) and several others.

They know the police aren't doing anything.

That makes 6 houses on one block in the last two years alone.

Yep, back when I was moving into a new apartment. Pretty much only the bed was setup. Someone pushed through the back door (there are 2 doors for each apartment). The landlord went to see whats going on because of the noise and found the guy pretending to be locking the door/leaving the apartment. The burglar then turned towards the steps to leave and saw the landlord and said he was looking for someone and gave an ethnic last name. The land lord said there wasn't anyone by that name and the burglar left. The name didn't match the ethnicity of anyone in the building but common for the neighborhood. I guess he didn't bother looking at the mailboxes as he broke in.

The landlord saw the back door broken in and called the police. They were already in the area and came quickly. They drove around and the landlord spotted the guy and they pulled him over. Turns out he had just been released from prison, he was in for burglary, and was on probation. They got a warrant to search his house and found items from other break ins in the neighborhood (the reason the police were around in the first place). One of the officers said he was going to go back to prison to serve the rest of his term and now had new charges, several years in total.

Yes. I live in Honolulu, so we have a plentiful supply of crackheads and losers for the job.

Car got broken into, stole a crappy mp3 player and our roadside safety kit.

Backyard got broken into, stole some tools.

About a year ago, our apartment was broken into. They made off with nearly all of my wife's jewlery, a PS3, wii, digital camera (p&s), bluetooth gps, ipod dock and some other stuff. We moved into a 24 hour secured condo by the end of the week.

Someone broke into my car in college and stole my now wife's CD collection, and tried to yank out my cd head unit with a flat head screwdriver, which accomplished nothing other than to tear it up. Hopefully whoever did it is in prison with a ruptured rectum.

Yes once. Back when I was about 19 I had a stero in my Scout and speaker box, amps and radio was taken out in apt complex I lived in. Sorta my fault, never lock anything even to this day, open air scout, speaker box was just silicone glued to bed.

3 different cars broken into once each time.

The thief only took my burnt cds out of my RX7, kind of weird that he left everything else.
