A few years ago, when I was reviewing my account I saw a couple of online purchases from a some luggage store. I knew it wasn't me, so I called TD VISA and let them know. They emailed me some paperwork to fill out and the charges were reversed and a new card was issued. No sweat.

I still have no idea how the number was compromised.

Yep. It's amazing how the CC companies are able to pick out what's a fraudulent charge - I can drive cross-country and buy stuff everywhere with no trouble, but then someone makes an i-tunes purchase from wherever and the bank is calling me.

I think once I had to verify some purchases that I made, but typically they're really good on their own.

That's a good point... Chase has only ever once called me about suspicious activity the same day it was charged and it was. I'm kind of curious what kind of algorithm they have to detect this sort of stuff? :ninja:

Yep, recently someone tried to charge $1,500 worth of crap at a Macy's. AMEX caught it and called me. They walked me back through my last two statements to make sure there was nothing else and issued a replacement card which shipped via next day air and showed up before 10AM that next day.

I like AMEX.
