Has Win7's chkdsk memory bug been fixed in Win8?

Take an NTFS disk with a fair bit of data, mount it as a non-system drive, run chkdsk /r on it at the command prompt. On previous versions of Windows, chkdsk might possibly use a couple of hundred megs, however on Win7 it consumes all the RAM regardless of how much RAM you've got. Microsoft pretended this was a "feature".

A quick check says yes. Running it against a half-full 2TB drive has memory usage staying at under 80MB on Win8 Pro.

Huh, I just tried it on 7 and your right... although it stopped at about 2GB of 4GB ram on 64bit for me

Learned something new

Damnit, you are right. I just tried and after less than 30 seconds, memory usage broke 7GB. WTF is this crap? 😱

edit
On the other hand, it didn't crash or anything. Memory usage stopped at 14GB and the test just goes on. lol.
