On my last move I advanced reserved a uhaul. Called up the day before to confirm, everything was ok. On day of, called to determine check out time, said truck was running late to get there near end of time.
Called about 2hrs before end, was told truck has mechanical problems, in the form of no power steering, and that it was the only truck they had.

Of course this was now about 3pm on a saturday so nowhere else to rent one. Kicker was they knew about the PS problem on the day before when I called to confirm but I assume they decided they wouldn't tell me cuz they'd lose the sale to another rental place in the area.

never rented a truck from them, because they suck...the storage center sucks ass though...took 2 hours to get a storage room that was advertised as a 10x10 room....for $80/mo....get there, and low and behold its a 6x8 room...well great, someone can't do their math right(or read a tape measurer) but the ass behind the counter couldnt do anything about it....never use them again

rented from uhaul one time for an in-town rental. I had made a reservation from 6-9 and asked if i returned it later than that would i be charged extra, the girl behind the counter said that i wouldn't, and i could even return it the next day with NO PENALTIES. So i bring the truck back at 930, they told me that the place was closing and would charge me an extra 50 bucks to return the truck! WTF?!? they said no fees whenever i chose to return it. I returned the truck, and called them up the next day to b!tch at them. the manager was rude, and even hung up on me. I played phone tag with the corporate office for a week. i must have yelled at every single one of them. i finally got my refund. I HATE UHAUL

First time - truck wouldn't go over 40mph

Second time - dripped oil all over my new driveway and charged $200 to use the piece of crap.

Will never use again.

Here's my U-haul story:

I had a girl staying with me in the bay area and all her stuff was in San Diego. She wanted to get it. So we go down to U-haul to get a full size p/u because she really didn't have much and I didn't want to drive a big box on wheels. I was real short on cash so I wanted to make the trip in one day. They were charging $35 a day. Thats not bad, but 39 cents a mile additional. I was going to be traveling over 900 miles.

So what did I do? I told them I was using the truck locally and after traveling about 10 mile down the road I disconnected the speedometer/odometer cable :D

So I drove to San Diego and back in one day and only had to pay like $45.

So I screwed U-Haul.
