Now boys and girls. Tom isn't that bad. He does have his fair share of wierd articles, plus a few more, but it often makes interesting reading and I for one would miss him if his site went away.

You ARE on a competitors forums you know. All that are here must be loyal to Anand! :D Although I like Tom's reviews... he tends to look at things from a more analytical perspective.

BAH! there's enough pie for everyone...lets all get along ;)

<< Hmmm I didn't really see where he said anything wrong. I kinda agree with him on a lot of points as well. He can be childish, but he runs a good site IMO. >>

He's comparing the terrorist attacks, a tragedy that killed more than 5000 people, to the injustice that surrounds computer hardware sites, and you don't see what's wrong with that?

He might be right about what he's talking about, but for god's sake, don't use the loss of human lives to reflect a situation concerning something as unimportant as a web site...

The click you just heard war Tom's Hardware being removed from my bookmarks. He must not be generating the income he thinks he should from his website.

You don't want to know his "raw" feelings. Honest. Take it from someone who knows. :Q

Quit raggin on the poor guy. I've always liked him and his articles and editorials.

I think most people dislike him because he has the cojones to tell it like it is.

I'll keep visiting his site as long as he keeps posting good technical information. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen very often. When it does, however, it's very helpful to us all and I'm grateful for it.

Hey kiddies, if you want to go to Tom's site, and even stick up for Tom, go ahead. You have every right to come to your own conclusions.

But don't tell those of us who have been around what we're supposed to think about him. If the depth of your interpersonal philosophy can be wrapped up in "can't we all just get along", you really don't have much to advise the rest of us.

;)

I think Tom has good articles in general, and some things not as good as Anand.

I think he's got a huge EGO...I remember a comment he made in his BIO ("Maybe I should write about my sex life--might get more hits"). ANd his ego is why I don't frequent the site very much, unless I hit OCers, HardOCP, and AT and cant' find what I'm looking for.

However, I don't think what he said was bad. If he wants to view himself as an internet martyr for his futile 6 year fight, let him. He spoke his feelings, something that you shouldn't be mad at anybody for (as long as their against the Attack of the WTC that is). Besides, cleaning the internet up is a good cause (but it will never happen so long as we can think we're anonymous).

The fact that he would try and compare a major terrorist attack where over 5000 people died and something that he feels is unfair in his own life comes off as sounding petty and small. He should have focused on the people who are trying to help instead of just thinking about himself.

Yep like the time he was telling Harvey how it was and his low opinion of Americans in general. Tom has a history here of being an ignorant fool who seems to only understand his skewed perception of his superiority to Americans. Yes i was here during the Tom and Harvey soap opera long ago. Most of the Anandtech family hadn't come on board yet so missed the arrogant posturings of the Good Doctor. Trust us there is great suspicion that he may have been the first Physician to successfully perform a frontal labotomy on himself.

Man people still go to Tomshardware? I found his printed book at the junk shelf selling for $1.99.

The guy's an arrogant prick who's so full of himself he can't tell his ass from his other ass.

I remember early on (1998) the guy made some stupid remarks about "other" hardware review sites calling them immature and stupid.

I stopped reading that punk-ass's material ever since.

How many here actually believe he's really an MD?

Because he's arrogant and obnoxious. Some quotes I found on his site:

"We think that for historical reason it should be us and nobody else, who tests Intel's second attempt to manufacture a Pentium III at this clock speed"

"I considered it my responsibility to be the first that reports of a Pentium III processor, which is for once capable of running Sysmark reliably at a speed of 1.13 GHz and beyond."

Mind you, those were only from a one article (his Tualatin preview).

Oh, and we should not forget the time when the teached John Carmack on how to benchmark using Quake 3. Of course Carmack doesn't know a thing about Q3, he only was it's lead programmer...

The quotes below are not on his site. They are from a series of e-mails between myself and Der Dokter. I posted them on around 8 - 10 forums, including AnandTech. I doubt they are still archived on any of them, but I still have the originals.

Harvey,

The fact that I replied to your email doesn't mean that I just assigned you to be my father. Your Nationalism is typical for your countrymen. A country without history and definitely without culture.

...A person who claims he is able to self reflect has no answer to the fact that Americans are STUPID enough to still go and play John Wayne, letting anyone run around with a weapon??? Is that 'just a law' or a serious neurosis??? If in your wonderful country 10 year old kids run around with guns and kill others, then it's maybe about damn time to start self-reflecting, isn't it? German HISTORY doesn't have anything to do with the pathetic foreign policy of your CURRENT government. So please try to see the truth in front of your eyes and stop excusing yourself with old mistakes of others.

Americans are world famous for being the most ignorant and arrogant people around. You guys think that you have the greatest technology - haha, the mobile phone system is a good proof, or the fact that you guys are still sending checks for payment = middleage, but you wouldn't notice it!! You don't see how much you suck, because once some US citizens leave your country they run around completely BLIND.

* * *

It goes downhill from there. THAT is Tom Pabst speaking candidly, expressing his "raw" feelings. I didn't make this up. As I said, I still have the original e-mails in my archives.

I give Tom full credit for publishing interesting some interesting stuff. I was originally quite friendly with Tom to the extent an unknown contributor can be. He even thanked me on his page for a contribution. Later, I first learned about OC-ing Slot A Athlons from his articles. I didn't bother to tell him about the mistakes I found in those articles.
