Maybe things are different in cities, I live in a rural area. Here if anyone is going without food it is their own fault. I know of several businesses that give out food to anyone that truly needs it. Most of the restaurants here are independent and not part of a national chain. I was out the other day at a place that serves chicken and pork and the cook went out the door and handed a bag to a guy that looked really bad, wearing an old coat and a shoe held on with duct tape.
People are also cautious about giving out cash, often it is used for drugs/liquor. I was leaving the grocery store and a guy approached me asking for money so he could get something to eat. I told him I would not give him money, but if he wanted something to eat I had a dinner in my bag I had bought from the deli in the store. He told me no, don't you just have a couple dollars. I again offered him the dinner,it was stew beef over rice with biscuits and green beans, offered to go over the machine to buy him a drink to go with it. He kept insisting he wanted money. I walked away.
If you really get down and out don't forget churches. Even if you are not religious , churches still will help.
Posting this for anyone who might really be in this situation.
DOn't want to go into too much detail about it, but my suspicisions in the earlier thread were pretty much confirmed. Heck, I ain't feeling too bad - who'd want to work in such a place eh? I still need the money though...I've got one weeks worth of rent paid and I have no savings so I'll be out on the street if I don't find anything soon.
