Has there been any word on G90?

I've got a 7800GTX, and I'd really like to skip the 8000 series, but my 7800GTX is starting to show its age in things like Supreme Commander. I fear that Silent Hunter 4 might kill it.

Is there any word on the next product from Nvidia?

Next product would defitnately be something along the lines of the refresh of the 8800 series. G90 might be a 2008 product.

Hmmm....

That sucks. I thought they came out with a new core every fall?

It will be much the same as what went before, have an improved AF algorithm and slightly optimized rops. ;)

Why not just jump to G80? it provides everything you could dream of. (unless you are scared of the driver situation that is).

I might. I have a buddy who has a computer pretty much identical to mine and he's getting an 8800. I'll see how he likes it first.

Okay, he got his 8800GTS in and he says that Supreme Commander runs like butter. I'm skeptical, but on my 7800GTX, it's definitely choppy with a lot of units on the screen.

I just can't get over how expensive the 8800s still are. When are the 8900s coming out?

Edit: Well, the beta map editor uses 2GB of memory, so I might have to upgrade that, too. This game is going to break me! :D

An 8800GTS is $259/$359 (320MB/640MB) and considering its performance, that's a great price. If you can get an eVGA one, you'll likely be able to upgrade to an 8900 when it launches with the Step-up program.

I'll probably be based off the G80 in the same way G70 was based off the 6 series.

Early '08.

Strange, Nvidia isn't planning a refresh. Either they are so confident that R600 won't be able to compete, or they got something even better up their sleeve... :D

Where the hell did you get those specs? I'd have to call shens because there's no such thing as 55nm architecture.

OCUK forums but I don't believe it either. It does seem that nvidia does have something up there sleeve though. I don't think we are gonna see a refresh this time. I think we are gonna see a better card to match/ or better the r600 cards imho. I don't see nvidia (or intel) giving up there crowns for a while.

Actually,it has already been stated,(not confirmed) that ati will also go this route by the end of the year

Wasn't the next step 65nm? Or am I getting this mixed up with processors or something...
Also, why would there be less shaders than in the 8800 series? Unless they're more advanced or something...

I dunno about how GPU's are sized, but processors have gone 130, 90, 65, and will be goin to 45 late this year with penryn

I definitely WOULD NOT believe that if I were you. Well, maybe everything except only having 64 unified shaders. That would be a foolish move on nVidia's part.

Those are wild stab in the dark guesses from someone who obviously knows very little about graphics cards in general...

64 shader units is less than G80, no one knows about physics, 55nm is obviously just made up. TSMC is not even sampling at 55nm yet.

Those numbers look like something made up by a 12 year old kid.

*edit: since we're speculating, how's this?

65mn process
192 scalar unified shaders
700+ mhz core speed
1.4+ ghz shader clocks
Predicted 3dmock06 score 15000+ based on an unknown cpu from the future
Taped out and waiting in the wings for Ati's r600 (as usual... lol)

I need to get me some of that GDDR4 XDR2 to replace my SRAM EDO DDR RDRAM in my pc.
