Has the power outage affected your computer/network infrastructure at all?

I have a battery backup (UPS) solution at work. The power went out and everything stayed on, which was good. The phone system went down though, so I had to scrounge around in the dark for extra plugs to extend the power cables to plug them into the UPS. It lasted us until 5 when we needed too, which was good. But I told everyone to stay off the phone unless they really need to use it to conserve the battery. When all was said and done, the UPS was powering the server, router for our T1, 2 switches, and our phone system. Quite a load, especially the phone system.

Anyone else have any stories?

Yes, indirectly. Our newsroom is not recieving both the national Associated Press wire and the regional detroit AP wire (both stories and photos). I dont know what's gonna happen if their satellites are not working by presstime.

Our office shut down for the first time in over 20 years!! We have 7 giant diesel gens powering the entire place but for some reason they didnt work today, hahaha. We are a major data center for the entire corp over the entire US and Canada... Those gens are supposed to last like a week on the fuel they have stored.

<--- Enjoying an unexpected day off:p

They were running the whole time but none of the power from them got diverted to the office for some reason. Oh and of 30 or 40 800 numbers that we have for clients to contact us, all of them were ringing busy.

We've got a gigantic Diesel powered generator that can run the datacenter for several days. So, no, I don't get to leave work :(

Saddly, I cannot reach INGDirect.ca (Internet Banking).

I sure hope they haven't lost data (they are based in Toronto)

We've got about 35 locations that my division is directly responsible for. At all but 2, the generators fired up fine. At one place the generator fired up, but the transfer switch had to be manually thrown...but of course no one knew that until the UPS ran out of juice... At the other, the generator wouldn't fire up at all, but we had someone out to fix it within about an hour.

damn, and here in the midwest unaffected

although I was watching it on the news and it seemed to be pretty damn bad...

I remember when we didn't have power for at least a week or 2 after the tornado that hit my town
