Has the Discovery Channel and TLC (and History Channel somewhat) gone downhill?

Does anyone remember the show Connections (at least I think that is what it was called) where that old guy would trace different things throughout the ages and see how they were related. Example would be seaweed was used to make gunpowder which was invented by so and so, who married this girl that wrote such and such...

I remember they still showed it on the Discovery Science channel a while back, not sure if they still do. I think if they brought it back it could rival Modern Marvels on the History Channel. That show was just so damn interesting.
Connections with James Burke. That show ruled!!! I have one of his books, great stuff. I think the original Connections is available on VHS, may be out there on DVD as well.

I used to love the Discovery Channel back in the day, but they run Police/Crime shows all of the time. In the mornings on Discovery and TLC it is nothing but home improvement and decorating shows, followed by some baby and wedding stories. TLC continues out the day with an onslaught of more home improvement shows and medical shows.

The History Channel is still decent, but occasionally shows like The XY Factor: Hitler's Personal Sex Toys or The History of Anal Sex comes on and I can't help but think that the History Channel is slowly but surely dying off as well. I guess I need to stop watching TV anyways, but damn these were the last 3 decent channels on TV. 🙁

Anywho, the Travel Channel has become increasingly interesting (when they are not playing shows about either Vegas or Theme Parks).

I've def noticed since 9/11 the increasing abundance of terror/war propaganda like shows on these channels.

I hate to admit it, but yes, all of them are going downhill. I like Trading Spaces, but TLC has gone overboard with these goofy reality shows. I like most of the stuff on the History Channel, but when war in Iraq was imminent, I got the distinct impression that they were trying to sell me something. And after working at a bike shop for ten years, I have to say that American Chopper SUCKS.

Ha ha, Trading Spaces is hilarious! Those gay designers make the worst designs ever. That's what makes the show so funny. I don't think i've liked more than 2 designs ever on that show and i've been watching for the longest time.

As for the Discovery Channel, they moved all the good stuff to "Discovery Civilization" which you need to order as an extra channel.

Don't forget to watch this awesome Egyptian mummy find on Discovery starting August 17th i think. They said it's the biggest thing since finding Tutenkaman.

The history channel is far better. But on digital cable they have the Discovery Wings Channel. That kicks a$$ (of course, Im an aerospace engineering student, so I'm bias to anything w/ planes).

You know what's funnier? I don't think ANY of them are gay... all the ones I thought were gay are married. 😕
And like shiner said... there's nothing wrong with several of the women on Trading Spaces. The camera men seem to like getting T&A shots. 😉

They used to show animals al the time. I miss the animal shows 🙁

Yeah, especially the rainforest ones. National Geographic Explorer still comes on one of the stations. I don't think it's PBS, one of the news stations if I'm not mistaken...

hey American Choppers is a good show so is Monster Garage and Monster house. They are just trying to attract a younger demographic to the network. Nothin wrong with that.

downhill from what? they've been almost completely full of sh!t since day one, especially the history channel

I actually like the H channel. I've learned a lot of stuff rom it. I know some info is skewed(I notice it a ll the time) but it is still an interesting channel

the problem with the history channel is they make sh!t up. none of my history professors thought it was very accurate.

It comes on MSNBC however the last few months, they have been showing it less and more of MSNBC Investigates. As someome said, the DC is trying to appeal to a younger audience [albeit they like crap] however reality shows are something I really hate and they really are not at all what the aim of the channel every was.

What do they make up? I figured that they would stretch the truth sometimes, but I always thought it was true for the most part.
