Has the cat broken my joystick?

Little Cassie loves chewing on just about anything, but especially power cords, pc cables etc.
I fired up my flightsim today and plugged in my MS precision pro usb joystick. It worked ok for about 15 minutes then the joystick stopped responding, and the num lock light went off on my keyboard. No buttons on my keyboard worked, not even ctrl-alt-del, but the sim kept going. I noticed that the power light on my pc tower was flickering (like the hdd light does when the hdd is accessing). I unplugged the joystick, reset, then plugged in my usb steering wheel, which worked ok. Inspection of the joystick cable revealed that it had been chewed quite a bit, but didn't really look it should have been fatal.
Do the symptoms suggest that the cat is to blame?
