Has someones suicide ever affected you personally?

Kind of a strong subject, but I am just curious how many people here have known a family member or friend that committed suicide.

My old friend & ex-roommate from my last year in college shot himself around labor day of 06. Weird thing is that I saw him at my friends house the night he committed suicide, still haunts me to this day.

Yes it's a bitch, I think of her all the time, its very strange I still expect her to show up like it was just a bad dream. I remember standing in the kitchen when the phone rang, looking down at it and having sick feeling that something was very wrong.

It has been an eye opener for me and forced me reevaluate my life and my priorities, at this point I try to not get caught up in all the BS of day to day life and just keep it simple and focus on love, family and friends these are the things for me that really matter now.

My great-grandfather committed suicide when I was in high school, but I didn't know him well because he lived in Florida.
My grandfather committed suicide when I was a freshman in college, I knew him well.

My best friend/ex-roommate's ex-fiancee committed suicide at one point this year (don't remember the date.) She's always been troubled, and it really didn't effect me other than I know my best friend is better off because of it. She was quite the psycho with an non-treatable form of schizophrenia and even attacked him a few times, and left him for one of our good friends - well, he isn't anymore. Ugh, long story short - I was unfortunately happy about the news.

I had a friend's brother commit suicide with a shotgun. Went to the funeral. A few months later (probably last month or so) I then got to see pictures of it when I went to the coroner's office to learn about their occupation. That was kind of weird.

yes, even though it was 20 years ago I remember every detail of the moment I found out about it.

A guy I know committed suicide. His parents gave that guys moped to a friend of mine. And that guy later gave the same moped to me. So yes, I've been personally affected by someone's suicide.

I don't think I know anyone that has committed suicide. I feel like I know of someone that was a friend of my parents or something like that but can't put my finger on it so it must not have been someone that important to me I guess...

Does murder suicide count? My good friend was murdered during the VT shootings earlier this year. I think about him every day.

Nope, I know no one that's committed suicide.

One of my friends was talking about it a couple of years ago when he was down, but things picked up for him.
