Has outsourcing affected you?

On November 3rd the company, at which both of my parents are employed, said that they are moving their facilities to Mexico. Is it just me or could this be because Bush got reelected?

I've worked for outsourcers for years. I lost my job twice to companies moving their outsourcing to other countries.

Uh... no. Companies have been getting tax breaks for YEARS for moving work to other countries. Thank Bill Clinton's creation of NAFTA for that.

Yes, though not as greatly as your family has. My hours of insanity on the phone with "Jim" and "Jane", who ironiclly don't speak hardly any english at all, is no where near as painful as losing a job to it.

yes, the company i work for outsourced so it could compete with the competition. in turn, i got to keep my job because of it.

It's a pain. I wish the government would do something to stop this. It's an even bigger problem in the EU nations that are better developed, i.e. Germany. They significantly lowered tariffs amongst EU member states, so now the poorer countries like the Czech Republic have western companies migrating. This boosts their economy, but causes unemployment elsewhere.

By better developed I mean in comparison to other EU members.

Um why do you bring that up again? I just said that the gov't should do something. I didn't blame Bush for it. It's just a statement that I wanted to throw in for some argument, and you already made the point, so why bring it up again?

I know. It's just really sad that political sheep believe the twisted lies that bleeding-heart liberals spin in order to build friction with the Bush administration. I just wanted to make sure he understood. 😉

:laugh: Touche. Yes, I'm an avid proponent for companies getting ZERO tax breaks for outsourcing to other countries. I have no problems with outsourcing staying within US boarders.

Yes. The seeds of it were sown around the Gulf War. This was one of the attacking points Perot used in '92 against Bush Sr.. Remember the "giant vacuum sound of jobs being sucked away" that was used by Dana Carvey in those SnL skits? It came from a line that Perot used that was similar if not the same during the debates at the time (I can't remember verbatim). The crux of NAFTA in context of that period was to make the US have strong backing against the impending EU and the Asian economic powers.

You can't have free trade and no outsourcing. US is uncompetitive on so many levels. Wages, healthcare costs, cost of living, education system not filling demand.
The dollar needs to weaken significantly for this to come into balance, but China is not letting dollar fall relative to their currency, which is sending the jobs to China and money to the US to sustain the dollar.
