Has NE1 ever put a "hit" out on a racing horse?

LOL, I know that this is a totally off the wall question, but I'm watching the derby "pre show" and they're showing the horses walking down the aisle.

Then I just thought, what if someone just walked up and capped one of them right before the race? Sick, but I'm SURE that this has had to have happened sometime in the pat 30-40 years.

It wouldn't surprise me. There's probably been some suspicous fires (Pie Oh My) or horses who were killed with injections of something.

I wonder how betting would be handled then.

If someone were to go through the lengths of having a horse killed, then the race probably wouldn't go on as scheduled and the guy would never get his money off the race. If anything you poison the horse, not do something stupid like snipe a horse
