I was just wondering does memory have any effect on those small but irritating pauses which happen during gameplay? I already know what things cause those pauses (or at least I think I know) but I don't know if memory has any effect on them...

It can. If the game uses more memory than you have, it will max out your RAM and start hitting the page file on your hard drive. This can cause the stuttering/pausing.

How about memory brands? Are there any differences with memory brands (considering those pauses)?

Run Task Manager in the background. Run the problem application. When you encounter the problem. Check the PEAK COMMIT CHARGE in Task Manager. If this does not exceed your RAM, then the problem is not coming from the memory. Also run Memtest86+ to make sure the RAMs are good.

I tend to doubt it. Brand difference can affect quality and speed, but not I don't think it will make much difference with the pauses.
