In my day, we dreamed about having sex with the hot math teacher, and there was even a song called "Hot for Teacher" that we jammed to.

Now, kids are getting laid by their hot teachers and they're going to jail. Kind of a "take the good with the bad" situation.

I graduated in 85.

Cocaine was huge in my school. As was pot, alcohol, LSD, Shrooms and all kinds of pills.

Yep.

Its mostly pot and booze... but the underground drug dealing is massive. X, coke, crack, meth but at a price.

My school is supposed to be some great High School at number 15 or so in the Country.

All I ever see is the 7-9th graders leaving trash everywhere, wearing the sluttiest clothing imaginable, doing drugs, doing more drugs, carrying hundreds of dollars like it was lunch money because of selling drugs, disrespecting everyone, destroying property The list goes on.

It gets exponentially worse as the grades go up. I still don't know how a persons handbag provides more skin coverage than all of the clothing on their body. Hell, I don't even know how the hell they carry their books around. 90% of the time, people come to class high.

There is now a gang called the "8 Ballers" who are nothing but a bunch of 9th graders who go ot at night, do drugs, and try to act cool and gangsta, but just look stupid.

A gang can ripped thru my old school looking for a certain kid, 50-75 would get in the crossfire, and this would never make the national news. Schools in the slump aren't that much focused on. They cut fundings to schools like this and give more to the richer schools.

Being a teacher at these types of schools is probably one of the most dangerous jobs in the world, next to arctic ice crab fishing and lumberjacking.

At my school it seems to be mostly pot and a lot of alcohol with the juniors and seniors. I don't hear much about anything else but it could be happening, I dunno.

The funny part is most of my friends who were heavy into stuff say weed/x and such are the most successful. Business owners and what not. Other than the nerdy already-had-a-college-picked-out-from-birth types most everyone else sells me clothing and serves me at taco bell.

The coke heads on the other hand seem to always be on parole

Ya, looks bad now with a lot more emo kids. Back then, we had potheads, but virtually no bullying thanks to a zero-tolerance Principal.

Nothing has changed. You are/were all nerds and didn't see or recognize the ****** when you were there. No matter what there were less drugs and sex than when youre hippie parents where there. You aren't the first generation to think the younger one is going to ******.

Sounds like your average predominantly black or latino inner-city school. Check Detroit, Flint, Chicago, Gary, Atlanta, Los Angeles, New Orleans, et. al. newspaper archives from the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s.

The root of "news" is "new", after all. Dog bites man v. man bites dog.

I am a senior in high school right now. Atleast in my school the main things are alcohol, weed, and sex in that order. Nobody, except those few select druggies, does ex, cocaine, heroin, meth or any of that stuff. However, I do live in the rich kid area so maybe I am just sheltered.

Same here, most people just drink and smoke weed. Other than that only the really hardcore/screwed up people use X, cocain, heroin or meth

I graduated in 1990. All of that and then some was in play back then.

I don't know if I should congratulate you on your innocence or make fun of your naiveté.

I doubt it's actually changed at your school. You, most likely, just did not know about it. If the product is there, it will be bought, and it will be used... And I'm sure many of those things were available in your school. Things don't change that quickly - some people know about it, some don't. Those that do often don't spread it too quickly, if they're smart, as it could ruin their 'setup'.

I graduated a while back and...well, if you were looking for something, it could be found, no matter what it was, for the right price.

I graduated in 97 and hearing things from kids graduating here in 07 its amazing. X is huge at parties, they do that instead of drink (or in conjunction). "Bars" are huge, I dont even know what they are? Alot of them will chase the late night partying and drug use with 3 or 4 energy drinks to start the day! Certainly what I see is anecdotal at best, but it does seem to be a growing problem.
I too graduated in 97 but either my high school was a lot more insane or I simply dont suffer from the disease known as Nostalgia.

I have no misconceptions about what life what like back then. The truth is people were having sex and doing drugs starting around age 13, (or 14 for the slow ones).
Then there were nerds like me who didnt get invited to any of the festivities and had to wait until age 18-20 to enjoy such things.
Movies like "Thirteen" and "Kids" are only shocking to those who were clueless or deep in denial.
The only difference between the new millenium and the 70's-90's era is video cameras are a lot more common and people can access those vids over the internet.
Girls Gone Wild didnt show anything new. American kids have been going to Mexico and acting like debauched Greek-Romans for a LONG time. The one and only change is we now have lots of evidence.

Sorry, I didnt mean to crap on anyones viewpoint or opinions, its simply the way I see things. I dont sugarcoat my childhood memories.
When I was in the 5th grade our teacher said he knew a girl who had gotten pregnant the summer before 6th grade. By the time I entered 7th grade I knew about 2 or 3 girls who had been pregnant.

And I think the last time I saw a page of statistics, teen drug use and pregnancy have actually gone down a little since the 80's, but that could be incorrect.

Sounds like High School back in the late 60's and 70's when I went except it wasn't X, Coke and Perscription Drugs, it was Weed, LSD, Mushrooms, Reds (Seconal) and occasionally Angel Dust.
