I graduated in 97 and hearing things from kids graduating here in 07 its amazing. X is huge at parties, they do that instead of drink (or in conjunction). "Bars" are huge, I dont even know what they are? Alot of them will chase the late night partying and drug use with 3 or 4 energy drinks to start the day! Certainly what I see is anecdotal at best, but it does seem to be a growing problem.
I too graduated in 97 but either my high school was a lot more insane or I simply dont suffer from the disease known as Nostalgia.
I have no misconceptions about what life what like back then. The truth is people were having sex and doing drugs starting around age 13, (or 14 for the slow ones).
Then there were nerds like me who didnt get invited to any of the festivities and had to wait until age 18-20 to enjoy such things.
Movies like "Thirteen" and "Kids" are only shocking to those who were clueless or deep in denial.
The only difference between the new millenium and the 70's-90's era is video cameras are a lot more common and people can access those vids over the internet.
Girls Gone Wild didnt show anything new. American kids have been going to Mexico and acting like debauched Greek-Romans for a LONG time. The one and only change is we now have lots of evidence.
Sorry, I didnt mean to crap on anyones viewpoint or opinions, its simply the way I see things. I dont sugarcoat my childhood memories.
When I was in the 5th grade our teacher said he knew a girl who had gotten pregnant the summer before 6th grade. By the time I entered 7th grade I knew about 2 or 3 girls who had been pregnant.
And I think the last time I saw a page of statistics, teen drug use and pregnancy have actually gone down a little since the 80's, but that could be incorrect.
