Has Gothic 3 progressed enough to buy now?

I saw the patch notes for 1.12 and they list the ambient sound bug as being fixed. Is Gothic 3 worth playing now?

Bateluer:I believe its quite cheap to buy now,so yes I would say its worth it.

Gothic and Gothic 2 are way better IMHO,less bugs and better story etc...

I would say NWN2 has more bugs then G3 so you should be ok,I'm sure apoppin will come in with his feedback later ;).

Have they fixed the broken combat system?

If not I would say it's not worth it at any price, honestly. It is so aggravating engaging in battles in the game and since combat is such an integral part of the game it ruins everything. Trust me, I have struggled through the game as much as I can and I almost completed it... but the combat system wore me down and I quit

I finally decided to get Gothic 3 now that there's another patch out.
Man, my machine is struggling with this game. Memory usage is over 1GB and frame rates seem low.

Is there a way to see the FPS in-game?
Is this game more difficult to run then Oblivion. I had no issue with Oblivion.

AMD 3500+
1GB PC3200
6800GT
Raptor HD

G3 likes 2GB + ,1GB is really the minimum now for a lot of games ,as to FPS you tried FRAPS,link.

Btw turns shadows off, helps a lot.

Well, if you like an incredibly hard game, get Gothic 3.
It took me FOREVER to beat that first part in Vangard.

Why is it that the Gothic 3 website only mentions 1.09, but googling Gothic 3 Patches reveals a 1.12 patch?

Edit - NM, the 1.09 is for the American version while the 1.12 is for the European version. Americans kinda get screwed, three months is a long time to wait for a patch for an obviously buggy game.

LOL i imagine you'd have trouble.

My X1900XT struggled with the game [when it came out], & yeah, it eats RAM for snacks.
2 GB is like bare minimum for Gothic 3.

I haven't touched it since it came out though, since i was pissed about the initial lack of AA (did they ever fix that?) & the fact it kept hitching on my system as if it was outta RAM...

I may try it again on Vista 64 + 4 GB RAM now...see what happens.

I'd still say no. The combat system really stinks and kills the game. I really doubt it's fixable since it looks like that's the way it is by design.

Not really interested in an expansion pack if its released only in Europe, like the G2 expansion.

Their lackluster support of G3 makes me wary to buying another title from them as well.

The truth is Gothic and Gothic 2 are way better then G3 and can be found at bargain basement prices,so you might want to consider those titles instead.

Hi Mem

:p

anyway ... i loved Gothic3's STORY ... right up till the Ending
... despised the performance and the broken Quests and SQs

now ... i have a "real" gaming machine, so i doubt there will be *any* problem with performance ....

so i am *totally* looking forward to the expansion

bring it on ... but bring it on 'polished'

[note to the G3 Devs ... i *can* wait a year for them to fix the expansion ;)]

I already own, played, and beat both G1 and G2. :p

G3's engine dyanically loads content as you walk around the world, so there are no loading zones. That's why it constantly stutters. I think it would take a complete redesign of the engine to fix this, even 4gb wouldn't help.

Wish the developers knew that. I consistently hit 'load zones' where my comp. just stopped for about a minute or two. Occasionally, it never came out of these and froze the entire system. Mashing ctr-alt-del and alt-f4 helped a few times, but it usually required a hard boot.

they might have taken a clue from Oblivion whose seamless transitions are ... well seamless

and i bet it runs ok on my rig with 2GB RAM ... now :p

Well, not exatly seamless. Everytime you go in and out of a town, or in and out of a building, you get a loading screen. In Gothic 3 you never get loading screens, no matter where in the world you go. They tried to make an engine that could load data while the player was playing without interupting the action. They didn't quite meet that qoal.

Wow, my experience with NWN2 was that it had NOWHERE near as many bugs as Gothic3.

believe it or not ...
i just installed G3 and am DL'ing the 1.12 patch ...

just curious how it runs on my new system .... [in rig]

it ran like total crap on my x850xt/p4@3.31G/1GB PC3500 ... and not too much better with the same rig and x1950p ....
.. wondering how the patch will be and the 2GB RAM and faster proc will handle it

there is very little to match the "beauty" of Oblivion's SI ... and the "world" itself IS seamless ... but when you enter a town or dungeon, there is a loading screen

How about those "saves" in G3 ... used to take almost a minute to save/load :p

still waiting for the DL :p

dialup

but i fired it up ... it DOES run smoother ... and saves faster

and crashes to desktop ...

how did they ever let that *mess* out the door

it is *almost* as bad as NWN2 was

... sorry
:D

i d/l'ed 99% of it and the DL failed ... "resume not supported"...:p

finally ... gotcha :p

Yes, it runs a *lot* smoother ... with *everything maxed* - 'in game' *except* for 2xAA it is VERY playable ... 4x made it slow on my rig.

i even ran FRAPS and there were only occasional 'blips' to the very hi-20s ... generally 30s/40s and up ...

HOWEVER, there is still that irritating "stutter" ... as it loads, i guess ... maybe i need 2 MORE GB ram :p
--and there ARE "transitions" ... like when you teleport to another area of the map ... it is NOT "all seamless"

sound issues appear to be fixed but i didn't play 'that' long ... at least it didn't crash every 15 minutes like the unpatched version
:Q

so if it is bargain bin... go for it

here's hoping for an expansion!
