has digg.com hurt or helped content?

Many internet forums seem to be losing their sizzle nowadays. Most of the replied to posts are just rehashes of digg.com entries. This is not an atot issue its an issue with all forums across the net. The only original content seems to be the random girl problem or mortgage inquiry. Was there more better original content before sites like digg that take big stories and spread them across the web? or was their more content and just less quality before? Discuss discuss I would like to hear some opinions.

Before digg there was fark for funny/random stuff and slashdot for tech news. The thing about digg is that you can get the majority of the interesting news all in one place, which means that people don't feel compelled to visit the smaller sites (where perhaps some large fraction of the interesting content is talked about on digg and the small remainder is original).

That is a good point that I hadnt really considered, just takes the funny, the scientific and everything else into one area, simple idea but took a long time eh ;0

The one issue which is occurring, is the dilution of original content.

A bunch of stuff posted on diggs is sometimes a blog about a blog about a blog about something on a newspaper site which is annoying as hell

Yeah the lame blogspam and people gaming digg is something which the devs need to support, and the community needs to enforce. I think thats more an issue of digg's implementation and less its concept

Read some the comments people post on Digg. It'll make you cry. That site says it's for geeks but it's really just for idiots.

most digg stories and comments are the ultimate fanboi hangout, for retards to argue about apple vs linux vs ms, athiests vs religion, and politics. it has its usefulness, and i visit it, but oftentimes it annoys me.

most comments devolve into this:

-linux roolz omg
-no apple is better!!
-not goign to get vista till patches lawl
-omg you are lame god doesnt exist because vista sux

Hmm I kinda like Digg, but that's just me. I like to see the more important stuff filtered out from crap.

Every once in a while I get on a computer that has yahoo for a homepage. I can say that the "news" on yahoo's daily homepage is utter and complete crap. I also was in a waiting room the other day that had some sort of afternoon CNN news show on and that was also complete and Utter crap.

They put the dumbest shit on there, they make up news, and they focus and 4 fucking miners that have been trapped and who gives a shit? That's local news. There are about 2000% to many "news" sources in existance. Unfortunately they will never go away, people keep buying this shit up.

How does this relate to Digg, well news on there at least is controlled by people, and not cable companies who think they know what people want to read.

It is the people that are the problem, ha ha.
