Has ATOT become such an addiction for any current posters or past ones that you can recall that compelled them to give it up at least temporarily? I ask because somebody I've seen in ATOT often and was having some personal problems he made a few threads about requested the mods to ban him so he isn't able to come back.
I am not going to mention the name but it's freely available on the first page of the Off Topic category for those interested. ATOT is fun and a great way to pass time but is anybody that hooked on it?

No. I poke around a message board or two when it's something that fits into my schedule and what I'm working on (e.g., video rendering, debugging and recompiling, and DVD authoring = more message board time). Never had one become addictive or stand in the way of my getting things done.

not really. i've never looked at OT outside the hours of 830 to 6

I wouldn't say it's an addiction or it interferes with anything, but I frequent here quite a bit. It is set as my home page afterall. For me, the Anandtech forums have become just like CNN.com and ESPN.com. It's just one of those sites that I enjoy checking each day to see what's new.

I can see this place getting a little addictive. Everyone's different. I know exactly who you're talking about, and he's got over quadruple my post count yet he's only been here half as long as me. I guess if I posted 8 times as much stuff here every day, then yeah, I would come back to view the outcomes of my threads. :)

P.S. What happened to him? Did they ban him as requested? I haven't heard from him in awhile now.

I'd be addicted to some other time wasting internet forum. If AT itself was still around, I'd be in general hardware. :D

Odd, I think I ran into this user on another forum... I saw a new account with a name I recogonized and they told me they asked to be banned so they couldn't come back. Gotta be the same person. Anyways, they left and don't want to come back (why they asked for the ban), so I don't think it's right to discuss them specifically (I realize you are not, but to others as well), out of politeness.

Sometimes you just don't like a crowd anymore and decide to leave.

No. And I was a member before it says under my icon... late 90's for me. 98 or 99, I think. Can't remember. I'm usually too busy in real life to pay much attention to these things.

Quite the contrary, the Internet in general has enhanced my life. I have friends from all over the world, and I have been able to work internationally. ATOT helped me to get a bit of a tougher skin... I graduated from the Red Dawn School of Internet Communications, hehe.

(love ya Red, and that hot lady of yours too)

Since it was his request I am presuming they did. I don't see why they wouldn't oblige his wishes.


Phoenix86, don't you post on Hardforum too? Your name seems familiar. Maybe that is the forum you are alluding to, I don't know as I haven't seen him there but I have seen two other banned members from here participating over there.
